Hump!

(LOCAL PORN EXTRAVAGANZA) After months of hot, itchy anticipation, Hump!, The Stranger's first annual amateur porn contest, hits the big screen tonight at Northwest Film Forum. Of the 43 entries, a select 20 will screen in their entirety and compete for the grand prize—a trip for two to Las Vegas's AVN Awards (AKA the porno Oscars). Excerpts of the remaining 23 entries will be shown as well, with the winner of the whole shebang decided by you. The 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. screenings have already sold out—so we've added two more, at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. (Tickets for those shows go on sale on Thursday, August 18 at noon.) After it all goes down there's a free party (featuring prizes, hot DJs, and a dildo ring toss) at Chop Suey. (Northwest Film Forum, 1515 12th Avenue; shows at 12:30, 3:00, 6:00, and 8:30 pm, $15, Ticketwindowonline.com or 325-6500. Chop Suey, 1325 E. Madison, 21+.) DAVID SCHMADER

Onset OTHER

(DRUM 'N' BASS) While the War Room's weekly drum-n-bass night has history and a sizable chunk of the genre's Seattle fan base on its side, Onset is strongly challenging the incumbent for jungle supremacy. In Temple Billiards' basement, bass (and drums, obviously) caroms 'round the cozy room with the high-impact potency beloved by junglists everywhere. Tonight UK ringer Chris Renegade spins with Grym and Devise. (Deep Down Lounge in Temple Billiards, 126 S Jackson St, 276-7543. 10 pm–2 am, $6 [cover varies depending on lineup], 21+.) DAVE SEGAL

(THEATRICAL FAREWELL) You never even knew there was an "underground murder-ballad proscenium opera house" in your own backyard, did you? Bid a teary adieu to Vodvil Theater (run by the folks behind such delectable objets de théâtre as Her Phantom Limb and See-Saw) with this party and performance of dark love songs by Serge Gainsbourg, Nick Cave, and more. Plus: prizes, booze, and a good cause (it benefits the film adaptation of Samuel Barber's opera). (Vodvil Theater, 1408 18th Ave. 8 pm, $10-–$20 at the door.) ANNIE WAGNER

(DEMOCRATIC DJ NIGHT) Up for a night of great tunes and boozy audience participation? Then get yourself to El Chupacabra where on Monday nights dry-humored bartender/DJ JJ Wandler takes a break from making stellar margaritas to play a rowdy mix of noisy garage punk and cry-in-your-beer, old-school country. Every 45 minutes Wandler asks his appreciative crowd to vote for either country or punk, and then continues his set in accordance with the majority's wishes. (El Chupacabra, 6711 Greenwood Ave N, 706-4889. 10 pm, free, 21+.) HANNAH LEVIN

(LASERS! MUSIC!) It's time again to rally your stash of psychedelics and gaze glassy-eyed into the artificial heavens of the Seattle Laser Dome at the Pacific Science Center, where The Stranger presents a live band with live visuals to pique the senses. Brooklyn pop folksters Grizzly Bear are making a special Seattle appearance to dazzle your ears as new galaxies strobe before your eyes. This is mind-blowing shit, this time with a beer garden. (Seattle Laser Dome, 200 Second Ave N, 443-2850. Doors at 8 pm, $8, 21+.) JENNIFER MAERZ

'This Divided State'

(FILM) Twenty-five-year-old Steven Greenstreet's sharp documentary chronicles the hysteria that engulfed Utah when, last November, a state college invited Michael Moore to speak. Someone took exception to Moore's visit, both the right and left got their already tangled panties into even more of a knot, and all hell broke loose. (See Movie Times, p. 99, for more info.) (MUSIC) From the ashes of Cobra High and Gold Rush (and the sidelines of Vells) comes the Bats of Belfry. Tonight marks the debut performance of this talent-stocked local act, a starry-eyed mix of the Zombies and Bowie—a meeting that provides as many tender moments as it does triptastic jams. (War Room, 722 E Pike St, 328-7666. 9 pm, $5.) JENNIFER MAERZ

(CINEMATIC TIME CAPSULE) Relive the grunge boom with this through-the-looking-glass double feature. Since 1992, Cameron Crowe's cinematic sitcom Singles has only grown goofier and sweeter, while Doug Pray's 1996 rock documentary Hype! remains an invaluable document of the weirdest period of Seattle history (Sub Pop's Megan Jasper still deserves an Oscar for her New York Times phone-call scene). Plus beer, wine, and food brought right to your table. (Central Cinema, 1411 21st Ave, www.central-cinema.com. See Movie Times, page 87, for more info.) DAVID SCHMADER
