But how many knew they could get a patio restaurant experience at just an expensive grocery store price (which is much lower than a restaurant price in this case)?

Good U District recommendations. Here's another: Kong Tofu House, Ground Floor of Russell Hall, 1414 NE 42nd. Tasty, inexpensive huge portions of bibimbap, tofu salad, chicken teriyaki, with lots of side dishes. Great place for students to get a huge, cheap meal out.
