I agree with Queerty in this regard: I still do expect more. Some jackoff pastor giving a prayer that he published in GQ at a concert just isn't the kind of "more" that I'm expecting.

@6 it is not homophobic to point out the obvious. It implies no hatred or discrimination or phobia to make the point that for many gays their ego makes their hysteria look foolish.
Teh point might be made that just as blacks no longer have any bullshit excuse about how the man is holding them back in society now that Barack is President, the gay rights movement has come a long ways in the past few years.
Teh problem is that the gay movement is trying to do too much too fast. If you are given an inch you bitch for a mile. With the understanding of how much of a minority we represent, we need to be careful not to completely piss off those who have helped us get this far.
I'm of the mindset that all this whining won't get anyone anywhere.
Also, as we've become highly aware, there were thousands upon thousands of folks gathered at the memorial when this occured - didn't someone notice that the sound was faulty at the time? Do cell phones not work in DC right now? Why wasn't there any outrage during the actual event?
I'm certainly ticked that no one got to hear Robinson speak - but it sounds like a lot of Monday-morning Saddlebacking.

To all y'all talking about how gays and lesbians have nothing to complain about, or that the movement for equality is moving "too fast" (WTF?!?) you really should see the movie Milk. Maybe you'll start to understand what's at stake and why people shouldn't feel the need to take it slow when pushing to be protected by their own constitution.

Something you mentioned that I'd like to focus on is this: "The Obama transition has been seamless—it's hardly hit a bump." Here's my problem with that. Shouldn't a transition from one of the worst-run Presidential administrations in history NOT be seamless? I mean even a little? To me this says that for the most part things are running BAU in Washington; I don't see any major shake-ups on the horizon, except perhaps with regard to the EPA. And that's just to get it to the point where it can meet its mandate. The Robinson debacle just highlights the fact that gays are probably gonna get as overlooked and marginalized as before. You're stuck and you know it, because what's your alternative? Go Republican?

I watched the concert from well back in the crowd, behind the Reflecting Pool over halfway to the base of the Washington Monument, and both the sound and Jumbotron were working perfectly while Robinson spoke. Maybe there was a local outage wherever you were, but there's no need to fan the flames of this mini-kerfuffle by implying that Robinson was intentionally silenced for the audience on the Mall.

It kind of drives me crazy that you don't care WHAT Robinson said, just that he should be seen by as many people as possible, in order to one-up the Christianists.

The Warren pick drove me nuts too, but honestly, at least Obama is TRYING to mend the culture war. You're just deepening the divide with the petty finger-pointing.
If only we could go back in time and repeat over and over that shortly after the Warren announcement.
How about we focus all this hair-on-fire ire and energy toward the real enemies of LGBT rights (and, yes, Warren's one of them--but fire at him when he's on his home turf, not doing some "couldn't give a shit" prayer at the Obama party), and focus our organizations, demonstrations, and political capital on issues that actually affect Queer lives?
Like keeping our jobs?
Serving our country?
Getting those 1138 federal rights?
Getting equal access to health care and AIDS education funding (without squeamish avoidance of queer sex issues)?
Ending the absurd "abstinence only" education?
You know, thing that matter a hell of a lot more than who gets to pray.
So this sort of tone deafness and apparent ignorance on the part of Obama brings up the fear, for me at least, that there'll be a few appointments here and there while nothing really moves forward for TLGB folks.
Of course, this is probably just my paranoia from living in a pretty anti-gay state for 8 years that also coincided with the anti-gay Bush administration. But I want to see honest-to-goodness progress. I'm hopeful I'll see it.

I severely disagree with this statement. Many Gays and Lesbians love the Clintons to death, and completely ignore the fact that they gave us DADT and DOMA. How many queens talked lovingly about Hillary during the primary as being the ultimate gay loving Politician, even as she promised exactly what Obama promised on the Marriage front (Civil Unions only), and said she would only repeal part of, not all of DOMA. Yet she's a fucking hero to many. It's amazing how that ability to rearrange reality only applies to Hillary, but Obama is a sinister master planner who, by virtue of being the perfect black man of your wildest dreams, can't make any mistakes at all.
This is equality folks. Before he even takes the oath of office he has failed to deliver his promises. What a relief after the past eight years of Republican bullshit. Right.
Take a lesson from the Civil Rights fight that African-Americans had. Stop relying on White Presidents to do your fighting, and YOU get out there and March.

As a progressive, liberal, atheist, gay scientist I don't see how Obama and the dems are going to get us out of the whole we are in.
Kerry failed in 2004 because the Democrats have become redefined as a totally centrist "At Least We're Not the Republicans" party. They don't really strongly stand for anything. The recent Democratic wins have come because Bush was so awful, not because the party has finally found a platform and become great.
I want more. Asking for a promise of change to be honored isn't whining. It's demanding what we deserve.
