You can kind of see the cultural tide turning, what with Dr. Laura and Rick Warren's recent comments on the subject. Wonder who'll be next to backtrack?
It's just another point showing the outdated Republicans are losing ground. I bet this article scares the shit out of the religious right. I so need to write about this on my blog.
The fact that only 44% of self-described conservatives support no legal recognition for gay couples, with a majority supporting either civil unions or full marriage, strikes me as the most interesting factoid in this poll. Attitudes are are definitely shifting. If Iowa and Vermont weren't the tipping point, they are definitely the prelude to the tipping point.
More proof that armed insurrection by right thinking Americans may be the only thing that stops the Marxists and homosexuals from consolidating their power over America.
Dan, gaining doesn't equate winning. The race is not won until equal rights for all. Equal rights may be *gaining* in acceptance (go figure), but the term "winning" doesn't apply until you're at least close to the finish line. And sorry to be an Eeyore, here, but we're not that close to the finish line.

Albeit very slowly. Day of Silence was still difficult here in the Valley.
@11 we still have work to do, absolutely. but don't be such a debbie downer. take the news for what it is: a sign of better things to come and a signal that what we're doing is working.
Wouldn't it be great if gays fixed marriage? Turned it into a real contract (with a time limit maybe even) with real expectations and real obligations? I dunno. Kinks and kink-friendlies appear to be moving that way and I see nothing wrong with the open communication, honesty and negotiation it brings!!
67% of the country favors at least civil unions, and yet Obama won't fulfill his promise to challenge DOMA. Eff that guy; I'm not voting for him again unless something changes.
I wonder what all those crazy righties are going to say when in a year or two the polls have a clear majority of Americans supporting marriage equality? I'm guessing something along the lines of, "the majority opinion should have no effect on marriage rights". I just can't wait!
It would be kinda funny if after a few years of having gay marriage, they asked to have it be made illegal again. :)

(also, @7: don't act like this isn't the most important news of the day.)
