Oh my. Douchebags.

Frizz!!! You made me turn to Fox News for a second!! Damn you!! (shaking fist in air)

Mary Jo lived for sometime before the car filled with water.
Her terror is hard to imagine.

A diver was sent down and discovered Kopechne's body pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed. He interpreted this to mean that Kopechne had survived for a while after the initial accident in the air bubble, and concluded that:
"Had I received a call within minutes of the accident occurring there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car."

It must be awful to be so bitter, lonely, and socially retarded that you obsess over something you know nothing about, that happened forty years ago.

Somehow I don't think Teddy will burn in hell, but you, #3, are already there. Until you can accept responsibility for your failings as a human, you will continue to be a unhappy miserable bastard. You'll never change, so why don't you just end it? You'd be doing us all a favor.

“Cowardice asks the question: is it safe?
Expediency asks the question: is it politic?
Vanity asks the question: is it popular?
But conscience asks the question: is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular- but one must take it simply because it is right.”

I find it difficult to respect anybody that speaks ill of the dead, so freely. Regardless of your political affiliation.

Try being a bit more compassionate, and maybe you can join the rest of the human race.

You can google all the noble quotes you want, but you're still a miserable, envious, bastard.
12
Who needs fox news coverage when we have our very own slog troll? he just repeats what he hears from them anyway.
13
@3 -- it's people like you that make it so easy to hate the middle 60% of this country. In fact, I'm sure you're stockpiling weapons right now to kill Dr.s at clinics, in the name of God of course. Get a fucking life, troll.
14
Fuckers!

@3,
Nobody's claiming he was perfect. He's a politician, like Bush, like Obama. Just happens that this politician's done a lot of great things in his career. Done some shitty ones too of course, one of which you've brought up here.
15
11
Ted Kennedy meant lying and killing to further your political career.
16
14

Allowed an innocent girl to die a slow and terrifying death.
I guess you could call that "shitty".
17
Well, at least that wasn't someone else's thought you were bastardizing to promote your idiotic obsession. I suppose that's progress.
18
13
The ease with which you hate springs up from within yourself.
19
@7 the day that Bush dies i will dance upon his grave and spout the most venomous insults I can possibly imagine. Does your reasoning still stand?
20
@8,9 & 10 (I'm fairly sure you're all the same poster),
I agree, let's work for justice and stop justifying sins. Prosecute Bush & Cheney!
21
@19 - Stupid question. Of course it still stands.

Why wouldn't it???
22
@19 - Consider this:

One person can state, "I disliked the man, and I disliked his politics."

Another can state, "I'm glad the motherfucker is dead and I hope he rots in hell. Here, let me take this moment to piss all over his grave."

Which human being would you rather be known as?? And, which person do you believe others would care to be associated with?

I've already decided which one I prefer.
23
I can envision what the afterlife for him might be. Continuously punching Robert Novack in the mouth. His heaven, Robert's hell, and it's the same room!

22
You hang out with the mealy mouthed coward.
I'll take the guy not afraid to speak the truth.
25
I met the man back in 1972, and to put it mildly, I was not impressed. He was a phony, two-faced, lying, womanizing, alcoholic, and that impression has nothing to do with what happened at Chappaquiddick.

Yes, he did some good things, but let's back off on the nominations for sainthood, OK? He was no saint.
26
@22

Dear Augusto Pinochet,

I am very sorry that I celebrated your death. Obviously, I am not a human being. Despite your death squads and "disappearances", I should not have spoken ill of the dead. I am sorry.

Signed,
Spineless Liberal Handwringer
27
@24 - That's perfectly fine. Be who you want to be. Doesn't mean I have to respect you.

Isn't America great?
28
@26

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you threw "Liberal" in there? Can there be no spineless conservative handwringers?

@ 26 - See, this is what happens when you don't "think" before posting. Bush, Obama, or even Kennedy is/was not Hitler (or Pinochet, per your example). That's not the point of my post.

Yes, Hitler was evil. Pure. Evil. But not wanting to piss on his grave does not make me a "Spineless Liberal Handwringer." You're ignorant to think so.

There are varying degrees at issue here. Yet, I'm sure you don't see it. So sure. By all means wag your stubby little finger at me for trying to take the high-road. That always sits well.
32
Justice is shit, Justice is for assholes who can't get over themselves.
33
@26

Dear Augusto Pinochet,

You were perhaps one of the worst human beings to live on earth. To say it differently is to engage in hyperbole that you do not deserve. On the day of your death, rather than give you credence like that fuckwad trstr, I mourn the loss of the untold masses who died at your hands, for they are the ones who really mattered.

Signed,

34
Ok, I'm tired of it already.

5,6,8,9,10, etc., you have too much time on your hands. Kennedy killed a woman 40 years ago and walked. JFK, Johnson, Nixon, Bush II killed thousands and thousands and thousands, and have libraries named after them. Nearly all politicians have blood on their hands in one way or another. Let's see if we can get the mass murderers first. Are you the first in line to prosecute warmongers? Didn't think so. Beat it, troll.
35
I love how people screech about Ted Kennedy killing a hook-up when Laura Bush killed one of her closest friends.

That's right. Laura Bush killed a man.
37
quit comparing what kennedy did with what bush (or nixon, jfk, etc..) did. can you not see the differences? also, quit comparing kennedy's death to pinochet or bush's death, and quit suggesting how one should react.
38
@ 25, so meeting him for let's say, a few minutes makes you an expert on his life and faults? What faults do you posses? I'm sure you can agree that he actually did more than just a few good things for the country during his almost 50 years of service.
39
@33:

You're absolutely right. Nobody is permitted to celebrate when dictators die. You sure told me.
40
Hey.

How about that war going on?
41
@40 What war?
42
Forget Chappaquiddick. Kennedy gave us the Reagan Era.

True, he grew in office later, but that one's hard to live down
43
I'm really saddened by the fact that Ted Kennedy has died before real healthcare reform (or universal healthcare) was enacted. He really accomplished a lot of good things as a senator and, more than any current senator, understood what the work of the senate was: compromise and achieving meaningful results.

I will miss his speeches. He was a good (and truly liberal) Democrat.
44
As was more nobly spoken," The evil that ment do lives after them, but the good is oft interred with their bones. So let it be with Caesar." What good does any of this snapping and snarling do anyone, except to show your pathetic yearning for a fleeting limelight. The madness that has infected us through various administrations, granting rights to wrongdoers and snuffing out the rights of victims, the killing of the living unborn, justifications of law into pseudo-righteousness, and most criminally, the abject rejection of the spiritual part of our lives that helped form this once great country. We now cozy up to murderers, grant legitimacy to a man-made religion of feel good now, and abandon all that was once good in this land. We have become a moral desert and have infected ourselves with a moral leprosy for which there is only one cure. WE CANNOT OUT-SIN GOD'S ABILITY TO FORGIVE. Realize that and put it to test.
45
Are You Watching the Fox News Coverage of Ted Kennedy's Death?

No more than I'm watching the liberal media's canonic coverage of Kennedy's death. Which is to say, not at all.

BREAKING NEWS: TED KENNEDY IS STILL DEAD
46
@36,

I can't remember the name or ep#, but it was when Bart signed up for Bigger Brothers and rolled with yet another of Phil Hartman's genius characters.
47
Naw, @38, you're right of course. I'm just saying that, amid all the adulation that's all over Slog and the news media today, we should also keep things in some kind of perspective.
48
@38, i met hitler once. he bought me a coke and gave me a handjob, so i guess he wasn't that bad after all.
49
@44,

How about cozying up to a man-made religion of unrepentant capitalism, with people who murder and steal being held in high regard? How about the guy who killed Tiller? Seems to me he's being held in high regard by those that espouse the same words that you do. It's a 2 way street. Since it seems that the congressional right has completely forgotten the words "compromise" or "teamwork", your words ring pretty hollow. You like the founding fathers and quotes? How's this....

"But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

Keep god out of it. It's pretty clear he really isn't into the world these days.
50
Amen, Frau!

YO! CHRIS F and other Kennedy-Haters on here LISTEN UP:

WHAT EXACTLY is HILARIOUS about this man dying after fighting a losing battle with cancer?

Oh yes people like you who never accomplish anything, never create anything, and never will sit there and bitch at and disrespect someone, that while human and fallible, gave over 40 years of respected public service, now that they are dead and should rest in peace. Was he wealthy? yes. Was he perfect? no.

But compare him to any number of these FATCAT MILLIONAIRE CEOs (you know, the type that you WORSHIP) that do NOTHING to help everyday people in this country, and EVERYTHING to screw them to the M-Fing wall 24/7 as opposed to Kennedy who gave his career to do the best he could to fight for positive change he believed in for everyday Americans, working in a less than perfect Congressional system.

Here is a non-partisan historical WHOLE PAGE of Teddy's accomplishments:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/worl…

Let me ask you something. HOW DID YOU LIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE SLAMMED REAGAN
when HE died? Huh? It was every bit as wrong for them to do that, and although I hated most things Reagan did as president, I was big enough to stop and fairly remember a few of the good moments of his Presidency and his acting career. But NO, NOT YOU.

Well, fine, keep laughing. I can't wait to come to YOUR funeral and scream at your family and kids about what a loser you were, print out and burn a whole bunch of your posts and then piss on your casket in front of them. How do you like that?

Sooner or later we will all be at civil war in chruches, schools, and state houses and our whole country will be one big Jonestown massacre because people like you and Fox Propaganda network just WON'T go along with Rodney King's suggestion: "Can't We All Just Get Along?" Nope, because you think you have a right to HATE and ATTACK.

Well, when our society starts looking like Palestine or Baghdad, churches and hospitals and schools and malls are blowing up, and we have martial law and our economy colapses - we'll thank you and Fox News for it.

52
Forgive me, as I have no intention of attacking Senator Kennedy, however to say that he had more benificial impact on the poor in this country than "Fatcat CEO's" is simply false.

Good intentions, progressive policies, and heartfelt legislation cannot create jobs or wealth, they can only reduce it. Effective CEO's build companies, make them more efficient, and benefit an entire country. Their contributions, although hidden in every American wallet, dwarf those of men like Kennedy, for that matter rightwing idols like Reagan. It is business that creates America.
53
What's interesting is that, in the end, Ted accomplished more in his life, than his better known deified brothers (and, screw you, trolls:)

"Ted Kennedy, however, gets labeled a drunken philanderer, despite having spent the past forty years pushing through every piece of progressive legislation that really mattered. The 1965 immigration reforms, the post-watergate campaign finance reforms, COBRA, ADA, Family and Medical Leave, SCHIP: you name it, he helped pass it. He almost single-handedly saved us from Associate Justice Robert Bork, was perhaps the first major national Democrat to support marriage equality, and had the balls to call for a nuclear freeze and oppose the invasion of Iraq when few others did. But, you know, there was that Chappaquiddick thing, so screw him.

...But damned if he didn’t do more to improve the lives of America’s poor than anyone else in government. And damned if most of the too-few positive aspects of our nation’s health care system can’t be laid squarely at his feet."

@53 - thank you.
56
TED KENNEDY WAS A WOTHLESS DRIED UP PIECE OF CRAP. ALL HE WAS FOR, WAS BIGGER GOV'T AND MORE CONTROL OVER THE PEOPLE. HE WANTED THE RICH RICHER AND THE POOR POORER.
57
but doesn't that pretty well sum it up? alcoholic, harvard expelled, manslaughterer of pregnant young mistress, drinks himself to death? waitresses in DC will no longer have to fear being vomited on. what's not to like?
58
what's so great about the "immigration reforms"? we have the russian mafia, vietnamese street gangs, the tong and MS13 as a result of that. they make the italian mafia look like romper room.

not to mention 20 millions illegals sucking up public funds and having anchor babies trying to stay here. what the heck did we need people from non-northern european countries to flood our shores for? where's the advantage in that?

and what's so great about progressivism if it leads to marxist socialism and tax and spend bullshit?

i fear that YOU are the troll here.
59
53. And what's funny is that the next time a Republican gets caught drinking heavily, most of the liberals on Slog will slam on him/her for being a drunk, after telling us to deify a Democrat while overlooking the fact that he hit the bottle harder than Ike hit Tina every Tuesday.

I mean, not to insist on vilifying Ted. I don't, and actually, I totally understand if you don't think we should vilify him at all provided he has a productive track record. But if you're going to absolve Ted Kennedy's drinking problem, don't rush to vilify your enemies the next time they get caught pounding the bottle, because that only makes you look as retardedly hypocritical as the average Republican nutbar after insisting we give Ted Kennedy's legacy a free pass. Be consistent with your cracks and criticism, and this is the route you choose to take, stick to criticizing other people's decisions, not their tendencies with alcohol.
60
What a lot of emotion! "Liberal Democrats" are "deifying" Sen. Kennedy. "Conservative Republicans" are calling him nasty names. I'd love to see a news article or obituary that said "He did this this and this good thing" but "he did this this and this bad thing." Life isn't just black or white. Yes there are Hitlers and Jeffrey Dahmers, as well as Mother Theresas and Dalai Lamas. The reality is that 99.9% of us are somewhere in the middle, include Sen. Kennedy. Elvis Presley had an abysmal personal life, but no-one denies his talent as a singer. Ted Kennedy has an abysmal personal life, but no-one should deny his ability as a legislator. Certainly Sen. McCain and many other (Republican) senators don't. Let's get some perspective here, people!
61
Umm, #52. . .I thought it was patriotism and democracy that created America. My bad.

Seriously, why did it used to be "Democracy vs. Totalitarianism" and now it is "Capitalism vs. Communism"? I am more interested in how I am governed and how much I can think, than whether or not I can make tons of money. Guess I'm just not a good American.
62
Here's what I want to know:

How many more seniors are going to have to keep their jobs well into their 70s, while dying of brain cancer, because we do not yet have universal health care coverage?
63
I used to watch Fox all day while working but since Fox publicly chose to not cover one of President OBAMA's speeches I stopped watching and won't allow it in my office. I want my news unbias. Fox has drawn a line in its own republican sand. I am no longer republican and I am no longer Fox.

Alcoholism and other substance and non-substance is now widely accepted as the result of two factors: a genetic predisposition AND learning the behavior over many sessions. Many of the Kennedys have addictive biological predispositions (they probably did not know it at the time) and they drank alcohol. Those who drank or used drugs received especially power reward to the opioid systems in their brains. One the addiction is entrenched and grows stronger --- the circuitry and wiring driving the pathways linking the opioid receptors into superdeveloped pathways (highways) ... they never go away. Craving remains high and the Alcohol, Deprication Effect kicks in. Eventually most alcoholics and drug addicts relapse - NIAAA, NIDA, WHO say most do so within a few months of traditional treatment ending.... and this is wht Ted Kennedy and his nephew kept relapsing..... there is a new way from Finland called the Sinclair Method - it was pioneered by the Finnisha Nalional Health Institute by an American neuroscientist, David Sinclair ..... If the recently published book The Cure for Alcoholism about the treatment had been available to the Kennnedy clan -- and George McGovern who lost his daughter Terry to alcoholism (she froze to death) .... there is an 80 % chance that neither Mary Jo nor Terry would have died..... alcoholism takes 1.8 million lives worldwide, it costs the US $278 billion annually and takes 105,000 lives according to the AMA... The Sinclair Method is not yet widely known because the medication used as part of the program (3 to 4 months) is generic and there is no pharmaceutical company profit incentive among other things. Besides the Sinclair Method is cost-effective and would probably threaten the $6.2 billion rehab industry in the US ...most of us know that traditional rehab fails - it's a lucrative revolving door ranging from $20,000 to $65,000 (in Malibu) per 28 day talk therapy treatment..... until the US adopts evidence based approaches to addiction it will continue to suffer from alcohol and other addictions at epidemic levels (18 million problem drinkers in the US alone) ... all of this is explained in a book on the tried and tested treatment from Finland --- The Cure for Alcoholism, Benbella Books, Dallas, 2008

@64 Funny that you would wish anyone should hurry up and die so you don't have to pay for their ongoing health care, because you're lucky enough to have coverage from an insurance company (that more or less wishes the exact same thing of you once they have to start paying out).
67
66

not just funny- hysterical, actually.

i don't wish they hurry up and die, i just hope they keep working.

i don't have insurance because i am lucky, i have it because i pay $2200 a month for a policy with a $5000 deductible per person.
i have not and don't dare use it myself, however, for fear of how high my premiums will go if i ever do.
when i take my children to the doctor or hospital, however, i am lucky enough to be charged three times the actual cost to make up for the uninsured who get their treatment without paying.
also where my luck kicks in is that i get to pay 12.4% of every penny i earn for Social Security and 3% for Medicare, programs that will be long gone and bankrupt before i reach retirement age.
i feel bad for the old folks with brain cancer but they are going to die anyway and i doubt sucking up $435,000 apiece of my grandkids future earnings on their way to the grave does anybody much good.

i certainly think healthcare needs to be reformed.
i hate my insurance carrier with a white hot passion.
but i don't see how me paying more taxes to throw another 50 million people on the government rolls does me any good.
i am barely treading water and obama wants to throw me an anvil.

so yeah, grandpa, keep that job...
68
67 addendum

when i say "i am lucky enough to be charged three times the actual cost to make up for the uninsured who get their treatment without paying." i am referring to the folks on medicare who have a procedure that gets billed at $1800 but the hospital only gets reimbursed $550. a couple of those go thru and then i come along with my kid and my insurance for the same procedure that now costs $3200. and i haven't met my $5000 deductible yet.

obama wants to tax me to put 50 million more people in a government plan that my hospital will have to accept but will still only pay them a third of the actual cost so when my next kid goes it will cost me $4400.

no thanks.

i'll adapt to the frying pan.

I love you, unregistered comments off!
70
@ 67 & 68,

You do know that you, yes even you, will benefit from the HCR don't you? Your rant is a perfect example of someone that will get help from this bill in regards to the cost being driven down due to less uninsured people having to go to the hospital. Also the competition the gov't creates will drive the private insurance costs down. The big losers are going to be the insurance companies that make only 200% profits instead of 400%+.

Elderly aren't the only one's needing medicare. I've worked my ass off in the non-profit sector for years and because of my chosen profession, I am NOT able to afford healthcare. So in turn, when I get sick... I wait... and wait, until I'm either forced to see a doctor or a miracle happens and I get better.This is why I do not have children and will not, until healthcare is reasonable and affordable.

Ted Kennedy is dead. I admired his brother John Fitzgerald Kennedy. They are great, though they show themselves human weaklings. In spite of their weakness they have contributed a mite for the progress of the world. I admire them. I pray for them. When John died, I was a young man. Now I can understand how the glory of the world passes! I would emphasize what they have done for America and for the world. May he rest in peace with God!

The new meaning of conservatism today:

If you help your neighboor = you communist you.
If you provide health care to all = you communist, fascist, racist you.
If you love your government = you communist you.
If volunteer on your community = you communist you.
If you are in college thru grant = you communist you
If you beleive in gay rights = you homo communist you.
If you believe in minority rights = you communist you.
If you don't have a gun = you communist you.
If you watch science channel instead of Glenn Beck = you communist you.

Have you ever wonder why they hate our goverment, but at the same time seeking to controll it? For them they are protecting us from ourselves and yet when we want to advance our current national condition, they seems to go nuts.

some of these wing nuts even suggest that we should return to the so called "Original" intentions of the founding fathers. Meaning to reverse all changes that have been made. That includes just the few.

1. Take away the women's right to vote
2. Take away the G.I Bill
3. Take away our civil rights

Nowadays, I can help but notice that word "Freedom" for the consrvatives only meant for the likes of them and most especially for whites. That word "True American" only applies to those who do have enough pigment on their skin. If your views are different, whether political of in life, then you must be the enemy.

This health care reform whether like it or not, is coming. It is part of the process and it is getting the same reception from the right just during the civil rights act in the sixties. What we, the proponents need to do now is to prove them wrong and at the same time, must put muscle to our owns words.

"You made me turn to Fox News for a second!!"

Why do we (meaning liberal-minded people) always raise their ratings? Best to just let their ratings sink and not get so damn agitated.
