are the thugs at SPOG really well respected?
2
the cops are excited about ticket revenue in that tunnel.
3
Thugs or not (and it's mostly not) It doesn't matter whether or not they're well respected. Hardly any of them live in Seattle. Hardly any city employees live in Seattle.
4
What constitutes hardly any of them Catalina Vel-DuRay?

I believe you're making assumptions that aren't supported by facts.

Even if you were right, cops and firefighters can campaign, donate, and doorbell for their candidates.
5
Well then enlighten me, six shooter. Exactly what is the percentage of police and fire fighters that actually live in Seattle? And please cite a source, so that we know that you aren't making assumptions that aren't supported by facts :-)

Catalina - an even better question to ask is how many police & fire fighters can afford to live in the City of Seattle when the basic cost of living, as calculated by the UW (http://uwnews.washington.edu/ni/article.…) has jumped 35% since 2001 to over $50,000 for one pre-school age child and school-age child in a one-wage earner household.

Those who are middle-income cannot afford to live in Seattle any longer, which is why city employees don't live in Seattle anymore. Contrary to popular opinion, the majority of city employees are not paid stratospheric wages. There are your facts, and a source.

However, that does not mean that the fire fighters, as one of the larger unions are precluded from making an endorsement, political speech is protected under the Constitution regardless of where the fire fighters live.

If you are so curious about where the police & fire fighters live, do a google search, google is your friend.

grdforever, I know all about city employee's wages. I work for the city, and I agree with everything you have said. And, as a union member myself, I have absolutely no problem with the unions making endorsements.

The point I was trying to make - which was more or less in support of the cops/firefighters (when the SPOG was referred to as "thugs") was merely that relatively few city employees actually live in the city anymore, thus the clout of city employees as a voting bloc is practically nil.

Although it should be noted that among some city departments there is status to not living in Seattle. Very few of my co-workers live in Seattle, and many of them regard the city as dangerous. I regularly have people ask me how I can "brave" working in the CD.

But fair is fair: I freely admit I don't know the percentage of city employees who live in the city.

We need someone who is going to let us keep our six figure overtime.

@6 yeah and fat boy gave y'all a huge raise and now fat boy isn't even in the top two.
10
Dominic,
You are continuing your record of fair-minded coverage of the mayor's race.

Just out of curiosity, what union represents workers at the Stranger? Aren't you glad Tim Keck is unqualified to judge anyone's suitability for public office?
11
Whichever one lets cops have the power to get bums/street kids off the streets gets my vote.

2007

Average Motorcycle Cop total comp = $110K

Average Patrol Officer total comp = $82.5K

Thanks 12. The idea that a cop can't afford to live in Seattle is stupid. The idea that a cop with a family would prefer to live in the suburbs doesn't prove that the cop can't afford Seattle. It just proves that give a nice, middle class income, the some individuals prefer to larger homes, spacious neighborhoods, different profile of public schools, etc... and apparently a lot of driving.

Hardly any city employees live in Seattle because they know better than most what a shittily run craphole it is.
15
#14, If you think Seattle is a "shittily run craphole", you really should get out of Marysville (or whatever little chunk of Appalachia-on-Puget-Sound you live in) and see other parts of the country.

Travel is a wonderful thing. Save up a little, and get yourself one of those Greyhound passes. You'll be right at home there.

Sorry.
I expressed myself poorly-
crappily run shithole
is more what I meant.

@1

well if you hate cops so much, next time a mad homey breaks into your home, stabs you, rapes and murders your partner, do us all a favor. Call a hippy to come help you.

Either that or lecture him on the joys of cultural diversity and American racism will he bones you.
18
You're right Roger. Things are dangerous. The crazy coloreds are everywhere, and soon they will outnumber us, thanks to Ted Kennedy and his love for abortion of white babies. The only thing for us white people to do is to kill ourselves. That will show them.

You go first. I want to watch you and make sure I do it right. I don't want to be hauled up in front of some Obamacare death panel.
19
Good reason to elect McGinn then.

Otherwise, you might as well admit you live in Fear.

Fear is the mind killer.
20
"The only thing for us white people to do is to kill ourselves"

Why, when you can just live in the Great White North above the Ship Canal and South of 85th? We can live in peace and quiet with our Subarus, Obama stickers and NPR while they kill each other off in da 'hood. Why should I care? I'm not stupid enough to go ghetto and live in South Park.

Please wait...
