Certain Christians so badly need to be scared of Satanist rituals being performed in their midst that they will manufacture the evidence to fit their fears.

I was about to comment that Satanic Ritual Abuse has long been debunked, but then I noticed that the date on the book is 1990, during the height of the SRA panic.

Those were the good old days of the boogeyman and Jack Chick tracts. Now we just have:

The head of one of my lines wrote a great series in the late 90s/early 00's debunking so many of these false claims. It's a really fun read if you want to remind yourself how much Christians lie in their effort to bring people to the "Truth".

If you read the comments at Awful Library Books, you'll see that the "repressed memories of ritual satanic abuse" racket is still going strong.

@ 9, I'm not sure that a few comments from a couple of true believers constitutes that the RSA racket is "still going strong." I remember stocking the RSA subsection at my local bookstore 17 or so years ago; now I don't think any of those books are in print.

Is that book full of inaccuracies or what? I don't think the Catholic Church ever wore robes such as those depicted in the posted illustration.

RSA is one of the funniest things about the ways of The Enemy. Since we would by in large prefer not to be Their enemy, only fight back defensively, and for the most part don't mind sharing the world with Them, so long as they can't fuck up our shit, they have to manufacture an enemy for themselves and tar us with its brush. It really is to laugh.

When I saw that colored illustration I immediately started laughing. My Grandma's sister (great aunt?) wrote this book and many others like it and they all have this exact same look. She's actually a PhD therapist and wrote all these books in the 90s to be used as counseling tools for abused children. I had only seen the ones on depression and eating disorders - I'll have to see if my mom has this one.

I can (unfortunately) see someone writing something so twisted & weird, but that it was published? That's what I have a hard time wrapping my mind around.
