Paul,
I have the most sold issue of Granta magazine featuring his artwork on the cover. I've been subscribing to Granta for ten years. It is one of the coolest covers ever and the subject is "Chicago". Mr. Ware resides in Oak Park, IL (a cool suburb of Chicago) where I'm from.

The little Stocks 'n' Bonds Casino makes me wonder if anyone's ever made a Wall Street themed casino in Las Vegas.
3
the little guantanamo, greece, mexico, and china were all amazing.
4
This makes me love Chris Ware even more. It's a shame that the cover was rejected.
5
I bet the magazine's founding editors would have accepted this. A shame they're such sticks in the mud now.
6
Yep. Brilliant.
7
@2:

It's gotta be somewhere in that rat's warren of a casino floor at New York, New York...
8
Maybe they rejected it for misspelling "Cemetery", which seems like an un-Chris-Ware-like thing to do. Oops.
9
TV networks won't allow Adbusters to buy airtime to promote Buy Nothing Day, much less pay them to make spots condemning Capitalism. not surprising.

@2, not a whole casino, but there is a "Wall Street Fever" slot machine: http://www.latestcasinobonuses.com/view/…

#2 and #10 - I was just gonna say I'm sure I've seen Wall Street slots at one of the Spokane-area casinos.

That cover is pretty great.

Great new book about Ware:

Go buy at your local comic book store.

@11: Really? Do you remember which casino?
14
That's fantastic. I think my favorite part is the elephant tea kettle.
15
@13 - Maybe the Couer d'Alene Casino? Forget where it was, exactly. It was on a reservation in Idaho, somewhere loosely between Spokane and St. John, WA, if you can imagine where that is.
16
@15: Sadly, I can.

Why don't you guys buy this cover for the Stranger?

Please wait...
