actaully, that location is PERFECT for a strip club. bleah, why must that area suck so much?

This webcomic looks promising. I'm trying to be positive. After 4 page clicks, I didn't want to continue.
Where else are some e-graphic novels on the web that are highly recommended? Kinds that that do the amazing, like a robot juggling?

It's amusing.

No matter how many times they try to upscale downtown Seattle, it always devolves back into its natural rest state of hookers, bars, gunfights and bums.

Skid Row is eternal in the Emerald City.

People should just give up, climb down from the $600,000 condos, stop showing up for the daytime professional job and start "dusting" at 10 am to prep for the all night soup kitchens and roustabouts on the street. Light rail does have a purpose...it's called a place to sleep.

Awww, keep pluggin' away, Lake City!

Wait, you mean the LSW business strip *wasn't* built to lure the drug and prostitute traffic from Aurora? In any case, earlier today I thought I saw what might be a bikini barista stand budding at the intersection of LSW & Northgate Way. This will be great news for those down in the dumps about family planning and Teh Gayz getting continuing support by the Legislature this year. The poor dears will really need the kind of summer prudery pick-me-up that only a bikini barista stand can provide.

@3, what in the hell are you rambling about now? Forget to refill your meds? None of the items in the post have anything at all to do with downtown.

And it's "Skid Road", not "Skid Row", unless you're talking about the crappy hair metal band, in which case you should up your dosage until the desire to do so stops.
7
@3, that isn't Downtown.
8
Damn! I'm not living there any more!

"decency vigilante Marilee Catero, who is conducting her own public notice by fliering the neighborhood. Catero's flier warns that a strip club could "lower property values, increase prostitution, and increase illegal drug use and alcohol consumption.""

Perhaps Marilee Catero doesn't like the competition!
11
LSW = Lake Sity Way?
12
Damn NIMBYs!
13
With form denizens like the Jolly Roger speakeasy and the racist Coon Chicken Inn restaurant, this section of Lake City Way has always been the epitome of good taste and high class.
14
@11 Oops! "LCW" was intended.
15
Damn! The delivery guy at 7 Seas is the only one in Seattle who can find my house!
16
@14: i kinda prefer "sity" in some ways...

OK, hold on just a second there, Stranger douchenozzles. I know your "news" paper/rag, staffed entirely by degenerate perverts posing as "writers," is prone to welcome any old sleazy pussy palace into our fair city, which is funny given how many of you are by persuasion ANTI-pussy, particularly when said pussy is being repeatedly thrust into your face and rubbed, dripping with womanly pussy scent, up and down your pant leg in a bold and lascivious manner.

But this isn't Lake City (Shitty) we're talking about here. You'd think people who are paid (albeit in paltry sums, which is still more than you deserve) to write about the city might be able to discern neighborhoods and boundaries, but such details are beyond you. Anything, in fact, that doesn't take place within a pantsless pub crawl of the decrepit Stranger offices is beneath your notice, because you're all drunks and drug users who are too busy prodding and poking each other with your shaved, yet still unimpressive genitals to care about doing your jobs properly.

Many upstanding residents live directly adjacent to this building. There are nice houses and fine, working people, in fact, all around there. Families. Respectable fucking citizens. This is NOT Lake Shitty; it's the confluence of Wedgwood, Ravenna, and Maple Leaf, reputable neighborhoods all, and it is NOT cool to equate this spot as indiscernible from the cesspool of car dealerships, fast food stands, and hustling derelicts that comprise the ACTUAL Lake Shitty.

I used to live in a condo that stands not 30 yards from Seven Seas/pussy palace, and while I personally would have welcomed the opportunity to stumble over for some warm $5 Coke and a half-dozen marginally attractive pairs of girl teats, I would have been VERY annoyed that somebody equated my neighborhood with fucking LAKE SHITTY.

There will be CONSEQUENCES for people there, and I feel bad for them. But I feel even worse that you disgusting, heartless morons can't properly report on this without resorting to ignorant snark. Send a reporter there (if such a thing exists in your useless operation) to see for yourselves.

IN conclusion, screw you, and I hate you. Good night.

@18, I live next to it with my two young sons. Right next to the retirement home are two huge apartment buildings, and behind them is an entire neighborhood of single family homes. I'm a civil libertarian, so can't complain about the strip club, but it IS a residential neighborhood.

@9, You're the reason the internet is awful. Judging from your screen name, you're the reason the world is awful, too.
20
Ummmm. "Nobody lives near the location"? There is a huge condo complex just behind it, and Ravenna Ave NE is almost all single family homes. I should know- I've owned my house on that street for 8 years! LCW might be seedy, but half a block away are nice homes and families who don't want strippers in our back yards.
21
I live in the neighborhood, I have two young daughters, I have no problem with it. Strip club DOES NOT equal drugs and crime anymore than a decrepit restaurant does. These people are working within the law and should be allowed to do so without prejudice. If you know any "exotic dancers", you know they are not criminals, they are human brings trying to make a living in a legal manner. If there were fewer people making judgments about others based on their PERFECTLY LEGAL sexuality and personal behavior, this would be a better city. People who would prejudge an establishment like this are little better in my mind than those bigots at the Westboro Baptist Church.

Okay, I have thought about this and think that if you want to live next to a strip club, more power to you. I on the other hand don't want a strip club in my neighborhood. Period.
Yes, where Ying's now stands USED to be a coon chicken, about 50 or 60 years ago, and the Jolly Roger has been closed for over 25 years. So by all means let's judge what is good taste today by yesterdays standards. While we are at it why don't we segregate the schools, parks, buses and lunch counters. The back of the Seven Seas (a family owned and family friendly restaurant for 14 years!) backs onto an open green space and several new low-income housing units. So to heck with all those so called claims that it is a busy four lane highway and a seedy part of Lake City Way! Get over yourselves if you think that this won't lower property values or bring unwanted problems into the area.
In the Stratford across the street is a community center that is permitted or otherwise recognized as having an established community center that is open to youth. Most specifically 60 4th and 5th graders that come to the open community center 1-2 times a month to congregate with the residents. They also have regular established group functions with Seattle Public School Groups, Boys and Girls clubs. Also there is a daycare on 20th avenue with the cross street of N.E. 91st. The list goes on. but not me... I am tired of this debate and this defense of a club that was rammed down our collective throats.

Well, this WOULD be a good place for a strip club except for the decent neighbors of apartments and retirement home and the yummy Phayhatai. Rick's had a good seedy locale- by a gas station and car lots.

People DO live in the area. There is a decent sized (and not trashy) apartment complex across the street. And houses surrounding it. I see the blinking Seven Seas sign every night from my window. Little kids live here even writing with chalk on the sidewalk.

By the way- It is fairly rare to find a strip club where the bathrooms (and likewise performers) are clean. So, yah- if it's a good club, I'd have no issue. A study I've found (abstract & citation below) reports that crimes do not increase after the opening of such clubs, but I'd think that's because they are more often patroled by cops. I hear of more people arrested or getting in a fight at a club (and bars) than restaurants (google it). Seven Seas didn't have people screaming at each other at 2am or BJs in the parking lot, or drunk horny men hanging around outside. Neither does the Shanty. AS LONG as that doesn't start up, then I won't mind the change. Maybe cops will be around more so our cars outside won't get side swiped as often? Apparently abusing the workers doesn't count as increasing crime.

Here's some info from strippers about the things that go on:
http://www.uri.edu/artsci/wms/hughes/str…

"Women in this study expressed mostly negativism regarding their experiences in stripping with themes of abuse, deception, drugs, and low self-esteem." "Women’s complaints of abuse are met with contempt and are dismissed by owners, managers, and staff."

An Examination of the Assumption That Adult Businesses Are Associated with Crime in Surrounding Areas: A Secondary Effects Study in Charlotte, North Carolina
Daniel Linz, Kenneth C. Land, Jay R. Williams, Bryant Paul and Michael E. Ezell
Law & Society Review Vol. 38, No. 1 (Mar., 2004)

This study seeks to determine whether a relationship exists between adult erotic dance clubs and negative secondary effects in the form of increased numbers of crimes reported in the areas surrounding the adult businesses, in Charlotte, North Carolina. For each of 20 businesses, a control site (matched on the basis of demographic characteristics related to crime risk) is compared for crime events over the period of three years (1998-2000) using data on crime incidents reported to the police. We find that the presence of an adult nightclub does not increase the number of crime incidents reported in localized areas surrounding the club (defined by circular areas of 500- and 1,000-foot radii) as compared to the number of crime incidents reported in comparable localized areas that do not contain such an adult business. Indeed, the analyses imply the opposite, namely, that the nearby areas surrounding the adult business sites have smaller numbers of reported crime incidents than do corresponding areas surrounding the three control sites studied. These findings are interpreted in terms of the business mandates of profitability and continuity of existence of the businesses.
