I used to go to a club like that.

"Mmm... nice sucky mouth... maybe Meese mouth!"

Howard Cruse, Dancin' Nekkid with the Angels.

Then what do they have those giant eyes for if not for seeing? This sounds an awful lot like sex-negative squid are just making excuses for their experimentation.

"What? That was a dude? I uh... couldn't see, it was so dark down there. You know how it is."

Notice that the assumption is LOTS OF GAY MALE SEX = SOMEBODY MADE A MISTAKE or is trying to beat the undersea odds. Maybe these animals *can* distinguish sexes but just. don't. care. Bonobos of the sea.
5
Ah, highschool...good times.

In the sixties, I made love to many, many women. Often outdoors. In the mud and the rain. And it's possible a man slipped in. There would be no way of knowing.
7
@6 - Without asking for all the details, I have to wonder how a man would have "slipped in" without your noticing. Just seems like the kind of thing you'd know.
8
@7, well, you know the old saying: "If you remember the sixties, you didn't live through them."
9
Sex/gender ambiguity AND tentacles? We took a hard left turn into hentai territory somewhere.

Find a hole and fuck it.

The ocean is filled with all sorts of counter-arguments to the "monogamous hetero sex is the only natural way" argument. For instance,

Orgies: Broadcast spawning.

Cumming in the mouth: Mouth-brooding Cichlids (there's even a scientific term for it: "intrabuccal insemination")

Cuckholdry: Jack-male Coho

Hermaphrodism: sea basses

Transexuals: clownfishes, mooray eels, tons of others.

Drag queens pretending to be a woman and sneaking into another guy's bed so that they can inseminate his girlfriend: Bluegill sunfish.

"Natural" sex is fucking kinky.

Oh it can tell, it just can't care.

@7 & 8
he's quoting creed from the office.

Ah! I love how "gender" is being restored to its original meaning: "state of being male or female."

Gender's a tricky word. I spent a few years thinking an anthropology professor had lost her mind because I didn't know that she really meant that gender ROLES were a group of societal expectations.
15
@11 Nice list there. Made me LOL ... yet it's all so true.
16
@14 Gender is a fluid word, not as tricky when you think of it really. It's just people ignorantly crave black and white (binary thinking) in spite of the very non-binary state of everything.

Human gender roles have shifted a lot throughout the ages, so have styles and clothing, there was even a point in Europe's history that it was all the same for everyone. I'm probably simply reciting things you already know, but seems the only way society will get it is if it's repeated a billion times.
17
@14 You might want to go back to school. Prior to the 1950s gender was a term rarely used except to refer to grammatical categories, it wasn't widely used to refer to male or female. Gender and gender roles are exactly the same thing since they don't refer to biology (the term for that is sex not gender). The conflating of gender with sex is a new concept, not an old one.

What's one more or less colossal fleshy appendage?

Please wait...
