1
he looks a bit like nixon.
2
Holy crap, you're right. Could be his younger brother.
3
I saw this on Bill Mawr - brilliant.
4
I thought O'Rourke did a pretty good job of making himself look like a huge asshole.
5
Sadly O'Rourke is one of the more reasonable right wingers....sad to say the least.
6
Now THAT is a takedown. Wow.

Alan Grayson among 50 richest members of Congress

Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, comes in at No. 12, with a $31 million net worth.

Don't vote for the 1%
11
@10, ignore what he says and vote knee-jerk, seems like a sure path to the same results. O'Rourke expresses the party line. The Republicans would like to this to go away in favor of their staged rallys.
12
@10 You really have no idea what's going on, do you?
13
#11, 12

Not only is Grayson part of the one percent, he made his money working in contract law at Fried, Frank...a firm devoted to all the M&A activity that started the ball rolling downhill in the early 90s.

Verdict: Grayson, guilty
14
@13: shut up, fat ass.
15
Dear Leader, like so many conservatives, is unable to make distinctions aside from those most literal ones that are readily apparent.
16
Why does Bill still allow O'Rourke on his show? It makes me worry about Bill's sanity.
17
@ 13

Bullshit. From Wikipedia: "Grayson made his fortune as the first president of IDT Corporation (International Discount Telecom), which pioneered competition and discount pricing in the long-distance telecommunications industry and became a $2-billion-a-year Fortune 1000 company."
18
O'Roarke is the quintessential enabler of conservatism in America. He doesn't hate liberals- in fact he even empathizes on a few issues- he just thinks that their efforts are futile. And that right there is the problem. It's that throwing up of the hands and declaring, 'Well, nothing we can do about it now!' that actually 'encourages the bastards.' Not liberal's insistence upon environmental regulations that mean that future generations of children wont be able to get an '81 TransAm that averages 9mpg on their 16th birthday; not liberal's insistence that hedge fund managers and others who wrecked the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands should be brought to justice; and certainly not liberal's insistence that the dumb ol' government be the last line of protection in ensuring that I can receive healthcare without bankrupting myself as any number of democratic nations currently do.
19
I wish I could vote for Grayson for President.
20
Alan Grayson is part of the 1%, yet speaks for the 99%.
The Tea Party was made up mostly of the members of the 99%, yet they mostly voted for politicians who gave breaks to the 1%. Life is funny like that.

Nobody wins anything without allies and sympathisers on the other side.
21
He knows how to give the talk shows what they want, but I hope Grayson gets a little better at not getting voted out of office. And that he'd do more with his hair than rub shoe polish into it now and then.
22
is part of the 1%, yet speaks for the 99%.

Hilarious.

I knew this type of double speak would emerge once the Libs realized "oh, shoot...we are the one percent".

What a bunch of SLOG-o-crites!!!
23

New buzz slogans for back pedalling trust fund babies at SLOG:

"We are the one percent that acts like the 99 percent...so continue to fund transit".

"I am the one percent that had parents that like screwed up my life, so I'm really like you guys. Except I go around the corner to eat at a good restaurant when I'm hungry."

"I will stand by the 99 percent side by side...until I can no longer stand their tasteless middle class clothing."

25
@23, I know the 1% will say and do anything to try and stop the 99% from voting. You're paper thin and obviously a shill in the 99% but with some misguided idea that you can be in the 1% by acting the part and selling out the rest of America. You're obviously not part of the solution.
26
Why does being wealthy invalidate his advocacy for the rest of us? I have never understood this line of thought. Nobody seems to lay out this argument when a conservative is advocating that deregulation of banks, workplaces, and the environment is good for us. Didn't the politicians claim that this deregulation would be good for jobs? How is that turning out for us now?
27
I don't see why Maher had to invite PJ when Franzen was there. That was a gaffe and a half.
28
Supreme, stfu.
29
Also, I don't see why Maher had to invite O'Rourke at all. I thought he'd be busy hanging out with Scott Adams.
30
@29, Maher's booker has a job to gather a combustible mix of guests. Blogs are not fueled by clips of shows where everyone agrees with each other, after all. O'Rourke got booked to give Grayson something to kick at.

Everyone did their part, and the success of the booker's work is that here you and I are here today, commenting on a blogged clip of the dispute.
31
O'Rourke has always been a bully.

Saw him in action at the National Lampoon back in the late '70s.

Passed by his office, where he was screaming! at the top of his lungs at his secretary, because he hadn't yet received a book he'd ordered.

He ranted at that poor woman in a manner I've never seen the like or encountered since in working 40 years at magazines, book publishing, newspapers, or other business offices.

Then later, when he got into the elevator with me, he gave me a flirty look. And I cringed as far away from anyone you can cringe in an elevator.

Bullies always attack those can't fight back, but fold like a tent when they're righteously confronted.
32
Supreme, could you articulate your point a little better, because right now you are making little sense.

This is a battle against policy, not people. 1%ers can be on the side if those in the 99%, just like 99%ers can be on the side of the 1%ers (as you've so well proven).
33
@32, well said.
34
I've worked in television and the booking of guests is not that much of a science.

The Sunday talking heads are heavily weighted toward "conservatives" and endlessly John McCain, because they ask more right wing idiots, of course.

However, in a show like Maher's trying for more of a mix, they also get who's available -- when they're in town -- those willing to fly in for a particular taping, those whose publicist is pushing one of their projects at the moment, last minute substitutions, and so on and so forth.

It's a crap shoot to get a balance. Maher and (now Jon Stewart) got/get more politicians and clever people, when they were located in New York, the center of the publishing world, and an Amtrak ride up from Washington DC.

(Another reason Rachel Maddow and Keith Ollberson's shows air out of New York.)

The quality of the Maher's guests declined somewhat when he moved to L.A. so as to be near the show biz.

However, no matter the location, guests drop in and out, sometimes up to the last minute before taping.

Watch episodes of The Larry Sander's Show -- that's the most accurate (and hilarious) depiction of the behind-the-scenes of a talk show.

36
Wow, judybrowni. I hope O'Rourke's secretary got her revenge somehow. What a grade-A douchebag.
37
Wow.
Just.....WOW......
That Grayson guy is FanTastik!
he should run for Congress or something.
don't you think?
40
Bailo is so adorable.
41
@41: I think he and KK have a future together.
42
Well, KittenKoder IS looking for a husband. I'm so happy to see that she took my advice and put up a more flattering picture,

But she could do much better than Dear Leader. I keep telling her the best way for a gal like her to find a man who can provide for her is to "occupy" a stool in the bar at Canlis, but she insists on wasting her time here at slog.

Bailo's idea of class is the Chilli's at Kent Station.
43
Supreme, you've set up a moronic straw man here. The substance of the protests isn't that every single member of the 1% is the enemy. It's that the 1% are being catered to by the government at the expense of everyone else (aka the 99%). That obviously doesn't preclude people in the 1% from agreeing and helping to change things. It should be obvious anyway, but apparently your skull is too thick and your brain too small to understand basic logic.

Put on your dunce cap and go sit in the corner while the people who can actually grasp some degree of subtlety have a conversation.
44
Whatchoo said.
45
@18

that was awesome... just wanted to let you know!
47
"Oh look, they're standing in the audience."

Zing!
48
Oh Ken, that so sweet - and just exactly what I'd want of any date with you: appetizers and a cocktail before moving on to something more interesting ;-)

In any event, KittenKoder is undoubtedly more physically flexible than I, and infinitely more naive. For your purposes, the smart money's on her.
49
Catalina, I'm pretty sure Bailo is her man, with all due respect. Have you forgotten that she claims to be missing Kent-Covington while living downtown? Chili's would be step up from the Olive Garden she takes the 174 to frequent.
50
I meant he should have invited a quieter guest who was not an author because Jonathan Franzen was already there, and I rarely see him give appearances.
51
No, I am NOT looking for any human companionship, I do not believe in marriage at all, and sex is for losers who are too insecure in themselves anyway (or as a means to get money). However, I love Taco Bell, so I would accept that offer ... but you would only get some depression based, probably senseless, conversation and nothing else.

However, to the topic at hand, sorry, but no one really "caused" the downturn in the economy, and the government is what fucked it up, making it as bad as it is today with handouts ... I mean bailouts ... for failing businesses and stupid "stimulus" give-aways. Things that did help are people, everyday people, taking out loans and not paying them back. People, yep everyone, giving their money to corporations with failed products just to "feel better about themselves".
52
A fembot without a brain. I hope someone is remaking the Wizard of Oz, and you have a future KK.
53
@51: "sex is for losers who are too insecure in themselves anyway"
Foreveralone virgin detected.
54
Someone has a girl boner for Ann Coulter. Everyone sees through that schtick, and she gets booked on almost nothing anymore. Another young Republican with tired old bullshit ideas and empty platitudes.
55
@51: " sex is for losers who are too insecure in themselves anyway (or as a means to get money). However, I love Taco Bell"

Do you play World of Warcraft, KK? It would make a lot of sense.
56
"SEX IS FOR LOSERS" will be a great epitaph for this failed experiment of meatsacks called humanity.
57
@51 "but you would only get some depression based, probably senseless, conversation and nothing else."

Even you're acknowledging that your comments are senseless?
