Such men are typically running from some serious sexual demons, hence the paranoid and obsessive need to police the sex lives of others. Always a safe bet.

I'm seriously disappointed to see Dan make a comment against intergenerational relationships. They are part of gay culture and history, along with those that cross class lines. Maybe my perspective is skewed because my mother and my sister each married men 30 years their senior. For my mother, it was the best of three marriages and lasted till he died. When my sister and her husband divorced, it was amiable and friendly; he visited with his new wife eventually. We should support these relationships.

@27 - Living with a man in his 60s isn't necessarily or automatically going to preclude sex. Lots of us old men still have active sex lives and not only enjoy sex but have learned a lot about making sex very enjoyable for our partners. Just so you know.

@38 Amen to that! I'm in a relationship with a wonderful man who is 25 years my senior (I'm 41 and he's 66) and he is a total and complete horndog! Thank goodness! He says he's been like this since he was in his teens. We do use pharmaceutical help sometimes, but he will often have no trouble "rising to the occasion" on his own. He is a kind and considerate lover who is completely GGG. He is also very athletic and has a better body than my ex-husband did at 30!

However, I will admit that I am a bit freaked out by the fact that Mrs. Santorum's former lover delivered her when she was born. I just find that a little . . . odd. It's one thing to be in a relationship with somebody who is old enough to be your parent. It is another thing to be in a relationship with the very person who pulled you from your mother's birth canal. I'm not judging, but I would have a problem with it for myself.

@35: I don't think Dan is being negative about age differences in a relationship. Dan has always been fine with it as long as there is open communication and the older party observes the Campsite Rule.

In this post, Dan is pointing out the raging hypocracy of the Santorums and right-wing Republicans in general. I recognize that the "reformed sinner" is a major theme in Christianity, but @22 is right. If Michelle Obama had this kind of history, and it had been discovered prior to the election, those on the right would be FREAKING OUT and calling her even more horrible names than they already do, even if she was a "reformed sinner" like Mrs. Santorum. And if that kind of information had come out prior to the election, they would have made that a MAJOR point of the campaign: "How can we elect Obama when his wife was shacking up with a liberal, commie, ACLU-loving baby-killer who is not only old enough to be her father, but literally pulled her out of her mother's snatch?"

It's only OK to do what Mrs. Santorum did if the person doing it is a Republican. The hypocrisy of republican women drives me nuts! So many of them acting "holier than thou" when it turns out they had premarital sex, they had an abortion, and they depended on a man to achieve much of their success. Yet they tell young women they are going to hell, try to deny them Plan B, try to charge them with murder in the case of an accidental miscarriage, and expect those who are struggling to figure it out all on their own.

Dan is all about avoiding being judgmental about people's sexuality. Santorum often seems to claim that "kink", "gay" or other non-standard practices are so vanishingly rare that it doesn't matter if we legislate against them. Actually, they're not. They're everywhere, including inside his own home and inside his own marriage bed.

The age difference doesn't surprise me at all.
