he's super old now so i think she's safe(r).
2
That means Callista was up for it, too. I LOVE the idea of the wanna-be conservative standard-bearer, Mr. Tea Bag, being an open-marriage Beltway lobbyist -- the exact opposite of everything they supposedly want.
3
I'd love to see a Savage Love with letters from Newt (is it appropriate to divorce my wife who has cancer and MS to take up an open relationship with someone who has Parkinsons and someone with Lou Gehrigs?), Santorum (I'm not sure my dog is GGG enough), Romney (how should I raise the underpants issue with a prospective mistress?), and Paul (is my wife really in support of libertarian views if she won't peg me?).
4
"For better or for worse, with mistress or in health, for as long as they both shall be convenient."
5
Wow, you're fast Dan. I was about to write you to see if your endorsement of our first (openly) monogamish president would be forthcoming.
6
@5, "monogamish" ≠ "CPOS"
7
I love the 'I'm not going to talk about this, but my daughters are more than glad to come chat about this intrusion into family things more than a decade old.'. Newt must be a member of the First Church of the Here and Now.
8
She was "shocked"? Really?
9
@6-tounge firmly planted in cheek, I assure you.
10
Well, there's this gem from the current issue of The New Yorker:
"To pursue Marianne Ginther, he had to abandon the family heā€™d put at the center of his campaign, infuriating even his former partisans. And with Callista he put himself in another impossible situation that heā€™d need to fight his way out of. According to Ginther, he asked Callista to marry him before he told Ginther he wanted a divorceā€”while he was championing the Personal Responsibility Act. ā€œHe believes that what he says in public and how he lives donā€™t have to be connected,ā€ Ginther said."

11
Maybe, but not necessarily, Fnarf- he could have asked for an open marriage banking on Marianne then asking for a divorce.

If Callista -was- OK with sharing him, though, then maybe they now have an open marriage. Wouldn't that be a fun fact to watch the Tea Party trip over?

Not that I really think he has a chance at the nomination, but I'm just curious how deep the double standard & hypocrisy go.
13
@12 I dunno, if the divorce had already been started when they began seeing each other, that doesn't seem too CPOS to moi even if he was still married at the time.
14
I hope Newt falls off his impossibly high soap box right onto a pile of his ever faithful (stupid as fuck) followers.
15
He's just rocking it old testament style. Callista is lucky he didn't decide to dismember her and send her parts to the various tribes of Israel.
16
@14 Nah, they'd cushion the impact. I'd be happier if they all jumped out of the way at the last second.
17
How "devout" is an admitted adultress?
18
@17 - very devout, apparently, if you have the pope's tacit approval, which the choir singer Callista apparently does. She was up there on the altar of the National Shrine on Christmas Eve looking ever so pious while the papal nuncio from Rome looked on. Hypocrisy of the highest order on stage for all the world to see.
19
Dan, you "consecrated host" slam is beyond the pale. It's one thing to disagree with Catholics. It's another to insult the heart of their faith.
20
what was newt's stance on clinton's blow job again ? this headline tells it like he thought it
'my infidelities helped me understand how to impeach clinton'
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/0…
21
Could he be any more disgusting? That those holier than thou Republicans would even consider a man of such low character for POTUS is apalling. Selfish, selfish, selfish!
22
Newt Gingrich is a whore.
23
@22 - actually, I think he's more of a whore-monger.
24
I am sure the christian voters will forgive him. They are conservative christians when it comes to attacking other people's lives, liberal christians when looking at one of their own; conservative christians when they want to judge, liberal christians when they want to excuse.
25
Dan, when will you redefine Newt for us? (I wouldn't want to touch Gingrich, out of respect of his half-sister, who unfortunately shares his surname...)
26
I will just quote Mr. Joe Jervis, "Newt Gingrich would like to remind everybody that marriage is between one man and one woman whom you abandon riddled with cancer on her hospital bed while you fuck the shit out of your mistress."
27
Newt is about the lowest of the low. The fact that he's popular says something about his voters and the republican party...
28
Dan Savage, I love you.
29
Where's the chickenshit defender of "family values", SeattleBlues"?? I can't wait to see him defend shit like this.

30
Gingrich (n): a man who asks his wife for an open marriage after he's already having an affair.
31
tniel, he really is a whore, in every aspect of his life: Personal, political, business - you name it. He cheats on his spouses, he changes religions to further his political career, he operates a whole array of sleazy businesses, operated just this side of legal, and designed to separate the suckers from their money in the most efficient way.

Newt Gingrich is a whore.
32
the moral, of course, is that CPOS gotta cheat.

and if you cheat with a married man don't be surprised when he cheats on you.

however you try to sugar coat it; monogamishit or what ever, cheaters are CPOS.....
33
I had a friend who was shocked, SHOCKED when his wife cheated on him. But he had gone into this marriage fully aware that she had been married before and had carried on multiple affairs during her first marriage. If someone cheats, it's a strong indicator they'll cheat again. And the human capacity for denial is immense.
34
@19 Just in case you're being serious, the Catholic belief that a cracker ACTUALLY FO REALZ turns into the "Body of Christ" is so fucking laughably retarded that it's every rational person's obligation to ridicule it.
35
We all know that Gingrich is a Benedict Arnold in the bedroom...old news. What should be more talked about is how none of that matters to the American proto-Fascists known as the Tea Party. The TP is infected with an entrenched 'groupthink' who's foundation has been laid by the Evangelical community since the 80's, using religion's ability to inculcate a heard-like mentality; then Fox News began to harness that heard by making them feel like rugged individualists (btw, groupthink happens on the 'Left' as well, wtf was that cult-like 'Human-Mic'?!). The real story is that their 'groupthink' has festered to the point that they will support anybody who vigorously tows their vitriolic party line, regardless of what tomfoolery, skullduggery...or facts...get in the way. These are dangerous times when facts and history matter less than bluster and baloney...
36
Was Callista included in the conversation when Newt asked for an open marriage? If Marianne had agreed would they still be married with Callista on the side? We'll return tomorrow for these stories and more, As The Newt Turns.
37
Ae least he's not gay.
38
@36 Derrr, shoulda refreshed teh Slog, nevahmind.
39
Wow, the comments on the abc article are amazing. People are actually reading this article about Newt and replying with various versions of, "Yeah, but who is this shady Obama guy really."
40
Suddenly, talking about Gingrich and his ex-wife is a "private" thing. But he has no poblem messing with other people's private lives!
41
So the institution of marriage can survive douchebags like Gingrich who repeatedly abandon wives with health problems to marry their latest mistress. But somehow society would collapse if the SAME legal recognition afforded to Wife #3 / Mistress #2 were given to a committed same-sex couple who had been together for DECADES, in sickness and in health.

What the fuck are the Republicans thinking? At a certain point, the incredible inconsistencies in their positions must cause them to abandon reason altogether. Which is probably why the GOP is anti-science, come to think of it.
42
Newt Gingrich wants to move the White House to the Playboy mansion. Larry Flynt will definitely have something to say about this.
43
My brother and his partner have been together for 34 years.

Better record than Newt (unless you add all his wives up together.)

And yet, my brother and his partner are denied marriage in their state, thanks to hypocrites like Gingrich.
44
Calista was banging him for six years while he was married. That suggests she was more than a little "OK" with sharing him.

I think the more shocking part of all this is that Newt brought this up just months after she was diagnosed with MS. What a scumbag. Sounds like he brought up the whole "open marriage" idea as a prelude to dumping her ass.
45
Jessica Grose over at Slate knows about the debauched state of Republican "morals":

"Unless Marianne has photographic evidence of Newt drop kicking several puppies and then peeing on Ronald Reagan's headstone, I don't think the interview [with his ex-wife Marianne] will make much of a difference."
46
"She said Newt moved for the divorce just months after she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, [and] Gingrich divorced his first wife, Jackie, as she was being treated for cancer."

See, there's the problem. His wives keep breaking, so he keeps having to get new ones. Pre-emptively.
47
I'm willing to bet that Calista is afraid to so much as sneeze in front of her CPOS husband.
48

I think this should be a warning to Callista, that she needs to lay off the Aqua Net huffing that she is using as an excuse for her helmet hair. Changing her hair style will help her health, and avoid Gingrich from divorcing her when she is diagnose with hairspray toxicity.
49

According to the heart association journal, Circulation:

"ā€”Who's most at risk for sudden death related to sex? Married men having affairs, often with younger women in unfamiliar settings. Those circumstances can add to stress that may increase the risks, evidence from a handful of studies suggests."

If true, we'd better damn well know in advance about Newtie's health and who his VP pick would be.
50
OK, so these candidates are detestable hypocrites. Big surprise there!! That they openly aspire to be commander and chief of the largest state sponsor of terror in the world is what they should be criticized for. They should all be dismissed on that basis alone, Obama included. Paul is the only one amongst them that does not support foreign wars and military bases. I don't care about his personal life and I don't believe he cares what you do with yours..
51
@46,

The fact that he is a Victorian London high steaming pile of horseshit cheat, during the period he was going after Clinton, is bad enough. To abandon his long time wife just when she would need him most (again) is absolutely inexcusable. Joe Walsh and Gingrich aren't going to support their nearest and supposed dearest, let alone anyone else. Under no condition should that scum be allowed back in office.

Abso-fucking-lutely inexcusable. I only wish Gingrich could stay in the race long enough for me to vote against him in the primary (cause that is about as close as I'm going to get to shitting down his throat).
52
@50: Oh no? Then why is Ron Paul so desperate to get government into my uterus to make sure it never aborts a fetus?
53
If Paul is so wonderful and pure, why isn't he running as a third party candidate? Why does he continue to ba a Republican?

He's a fraud, and only a fool would take him seriously. He's not even in Nader's class.
54
A prayer for Calista's continuing good health:

Oh Great Substitute for Personal Responsiblity in the sky, you came to us in the mail during the GOP primary, unsolicited, and we cast you into the trash can unopened - Hear our prayer!

Protect the health of thy devoted Catholic servant, Calista Gingrich because, in the event she becomes the nation's First Lady and falls ill, the Lincoln bedroom will need to have a revolving door installed and the cost burden will be substantial to your humble American tithe givers.

We ask this in the name of thy elect representative on earth who has been endorsed by the National Organization for Marriage as the model for holy marriage, Newt Gingrich.

Amen!
55
What IS funny is the fact that YOU , Dan will spend eternity burning in Hell, not only for the malicious things you write about others , clearly showing a lack of self esteem but because you are sticking your eh hmmm in another man and raising a child. EWWWWW Yuck. Truly I say , people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Repulsive to say the least.
56
@55: not sure if trolling, or just as dense as a neutron star
57
Of course the lying Newt is going to call his ex a liar. His wife number 3 is NO better, she a whore too!! A good Christian woman wouldn't have an affair with a married man!!! I hope he's not getting viagra!!! Pretty soon we might be able to call him 'Henry the VIII'. Scumbag hypocrite!!!
58
@52

I agree, that's a problem, but roe vs wade can not be overturned by any president. We had eight years of pro-life bush and it did not happen. Only the courts can do that. However if we continue to have imperial presidents that spend gazillions of dollars we do not have on the military and wars it is entirely possible that all of our rights including those of your uterus will evaporate when this country goes bankrupt and is taken over by true fascists. Plus, if all that money and energy does not go into military folly imagine all the resources that could be made available to education. And education of women, in particular, is the greatest facilitator of reproductive rights that we know of.
59
@53

Ad hominem attacks are for those not interested in learning or having civil discourse. bye bye
60
Has anyone actually verified that Callista is human? She seems more like an animated blow up doll to me. And I've never actually seen her face move...
61
gingrich (ging-RICH) n. 1. a constructed fabric composed of dried sperm, cum, and pubic hair. 2. Former US Representative Newt Gingrich
62
@59: Ad hominem tactics can actually be appropriate in some circumstances. If someone is making an unverified claim, pointing out that he has a history of lying is an ad hominem attack, but is perfectly acceptable as a counter to his claim. Bye bye.
63
@62

Thanks for the clarification but you missed the point completely.

Please wait...
