I think it's brilliant... the D peeling away from the C speaks to the secret identity of superheros. Plus it looks contemporary and cool. And I'm a huge fan of simple sans serif fonts. Well done, DC!
I suppose there are also people out there who get upset when the parent corporations change the images of the Morton's Salt Girl, Betty Crocker and the Gorton's Fisherman, but I can't understand why. Have these people nothing important to occupy their thoughts?
You know a logo is weak when they have to print the company's name next to it in block letters just so you know who they are. The previous "bullet" logos didn't need any explanation. They made a clear statement that this was DC.
@3 and @11: Maybe my sarcasm detector is on the fritz, but Watchmen was originally published as a DC comic. And, yeah, that's why that logo is up there looking like a Watchmen reference.
