Powerful.

Typo in the second line. Thanks for sharing this.

When women or men get the "poof do" like Nancy Brinker you know they have crossed over to the dark side. One need only look at her hair to know she is a high functioning psychopath.
5
Wow.
6
@1 Very much agreed.
7
Planned Parenthood kills 300,000 babies a year
and performs zero mammograms.

But the crusty old whore has friends where it counts......
8
I wonder what this woman thinks of "Save the Boobies." I'd guess not much.
9
Men kill millions of half-babies every time they wank off. Women kill a half-baby every month they're not pregnant.

When will this outrage end?!
10
This woman is an inspiration--I really really admire her strength and her frankness. Thank you for posting this.
11
@7, Where did this woman mention anything but breast cancer and how much treatment, care and support she has required? Oh, that last part where she castigates SGK for not keeping on topic, ie breast cancer and women's health care. The SGK board's decision to change their focus was purely political.

If you don't like her stance against politics, fine. But if all you can do is call her a whore, just because she is willing to demonstrate the facts of cancer to those that have no clue what the pretty pink ribbon is covering, then you haven't been paying attention. The only ones making money selling pink are in SGK.
12
Absolutely incredible. Gotta get a hanky.
13
@7, you kill more babies in a day that PP in ten years, so why do you care?

As for breast cancer treatment, which PP provides... as opposed to that pretty pink ribbon... again, apparently you don't care.
14
I second @5.

(and @7, you can stick it where the sun don't shine, provided there's room given the other rod you obviously have up your ass)
15
The contrast between this woman, abrasive, repeating herself, with the other video, which is carefully rehearsed and scripted...

Aside from all the rest? I love that a gray-haired woman is saying "I had two beautiful girls on my chest." I can't help but think how that affects her marriage and the husband she mentioned with such appreciation. It reminds me of the first Savage Love column I ever read, which was about the man who missed his survivor wife's breasts.
16
You can pout and be bitter, or you can be glad that Komen has restored funding grants to Planned Parenthood and you can give them the benefit of the doubt that they’ve learned from this and are moving forward responsibly. If they pull this again in the future – then of course never again. But this was an event, not a pattern and it’s important to recognize the difference.
It was overkill to refer Ms. Brinker as a lying sack of s**t, IMHO, Dan.
17
9
ah- 'half-babies'. clever. product of a half-brain, no doubt.

11
Planned parenthood is the 'whore'. try to keep up

13
double ah- 'babies'=sperm. product of a quarter-brain, at best.

14
poor bitter Stuck. won't Slog collect her some bus fare?

16
overkill indeed. our poor little Danny is a course crude sputtering hate monger. his mother must be proud. wonder if she's been converted to mormon yet....

18
Great woman.

@Phoebe, #16 -- See here: http://butterbeliever.com/2011/10/22/i-w… and here: http://www.americablog.com/2012/02/komen….

Synopsis in case you're too busy to read those: Komen has a long history of questionable practices, and Komen didn't really "restore" anything to PP. Please, do your research before you support that organization. There are truly way better ways your money could benefit people.
20
@19 - Thanks
21
she kicks ASS!
22
I keep seeing this mention that this PP place doesn't do mammograms, and it's never addressed. (popping up on youtube a lot also). Are the people who keep mentioning it discounting referrals to mammogram services or am i missing something?
23
What a fantasticly brave person...
24
The whole ugly imbroglio will likely not give my mother (dying of cancer, so chic, I know) one more day . . . the R&D "valley of death" in this country is shameful.
25
<3 this brave woman.

".....Planned Parenthood’s national president, Cecile Richards, went on TV and said: “What’s going to happen as a result of this is that this bill, if it ever becomes law, millions of women in this country are going to lose their health care access. Not to abortion services, to basic family planning. You know, mammograms.”

Problem is, Planned Parenthood does not do mammograms.

After Richards told her lie on TV about the organization providing mammograms, a group called LiveActionFilms tried to schedule mammograms at dozens of Planned Parenthood facilities throughout the country. In all cases, clinic workers stated they did not provide mammograms and in most they had trouble making referrals.

“We don’t, um, deal with the — the health side of it so much. We’re mostly a surgical facility (meaning abortion provider),” a Planned Parenthood worker said, referring the caller to “our family health center” across town.

When the investigator dialed Planned Parenthood’s health center, the conversation went no better.

“I just talked to Samantha, I think at your Georgetown clinic and she said to talk to you guys about, um, services with mammograms — that you guys provide mammograms?”

Pause. “We don’t here,” the Planned Parenthood worker said.

Call after call went like this: “OK, well, unfortunately we do not offer, like, um, the mammogram.”

Listen to the calls at: http://bit.ly/eoHaup

Even Liberal Apologist Whore "Media Matters for America" concedes that PP doesn't do mammograms....

"Following the controversy surrounding Susan G. Komen for the Cure's initial announcement that it would end its relationship with Planned Parenthood, right-wing media have tried to downplay Planned Parenthood's efforts to fight cancer, pointing out that Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms and does "nothing to prevent breast cancer." But this ignores the numerous cancer-related services Planned Parenthood annually provides to women -- including more than 1.5 million cancer screenings and preventative services in 2010 -- such as breast exams, mammogram referrals, and screenings for other types of cancer..."

>>After Lying About Providing Mammograms, Planned Parenthood Outraged That Breast Cancer Charity Cuts Off Grants<<<<

"Last spring, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards went on CNN and claimed that if Congress cut off funding to Planned Parenthood "millions of women are going to lose access, not to abortion services, to basic family planning, you know, mammograms." But as pro-life activist Lila Rose documented in a video, Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms.

This story is worth recalling in light of the news this week that the Susan G. Komen foundation, one of the nation's largest breast cancer charities, has cut off funding to Planned Parenthood. Cecile Richards wrote that the foundation's decision to "end its support of lifesaving breast cancer screening at Planned Parenthood health centers comes as a blow to women across America."

But as Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Komen foundation, says in a video, Komen came out with a new set of standards this year designed to free up dollars for "higher impact programs."

"Wherever possible, we want to grant to the provider that is actually providing the lifesaving mammogram," she said.
Planned Parenthood's role as America's largest abortion practitioner seems to be a significant factor in Komen's decision. Many Americans who would like to fund breast cancer research without lining the pockets of abortionists have pushed Komen to end its Planned Parenthood grants in recent years.

But why does Planned Parenthood feel entitled to a private charity's donations, especially considering the fact that Planned Parenthood's president falsely claims on national television that the group provides mammograms? Isn't Komen free to give its money to organizations that do more than provide mammogram "referrals" and breast cancer screenings?

In the end, Komen's decision to cut less than $1 million isn't going to do much to hurt Planned Parenthood's bottom line. The "non-profit" is worth more than $1 billion, as Charlotte Allen noted in her WEEKLY STANDARD cover story, "Planned Parenthood's Unseemly Empire." During the 2004-2005 fiscal year, Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt raked in over $900,000, and Planned Parenthood made $155 million in 2009 alone by performing more than 322,000 abortions."
29
Thank you so much, SLOG, for finding and posting this.
30
Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt raked in over $900,000,
and Planned Parenthood made $155 million in 2009 alone by performing more than 322,000 abortions.
31
Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, gave an interview to a newspaper in Oregon during a recent trip there to support a local affiliate of the abortion business. During the interview, Richards defended her exorbitant salary, saying it is a “non-issue.”

The Willamette Week newspaper asked her, “In the efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, a lot was made of your salary—close to $900,000 per year. Planned Parenthood declined to comment on it. Why?”

“It’s public record. It always has been,” Richards responded. “I work hard for my salary, and I think that’s a red herring. Planned Parenthood is the most cost-effective provider of abortion services in this country. The far right has done everything they can to undermine us and to create non-issues, which I think that is.”

The high salary is not surprising given that the abortion business makes more than $1 billion in income.....

In 2009 Planned Parenthood performed 332,278 abortions. Planned Parenthood’s total abortion income that year was $155 million. In light of their total “health center” income of $404,900,000, Planned Parenthood made out like bandits with abortion, which generated 38.4% of this total revenue.
32
A watchdog group that monitors the Planned Parenthood abortion business has released a new report showing that many of the CEOs of the affiliates earn over a quarter of a million dollars per year — making working in the abortion industry a lucrative job.

“American Life League’s STOPP International project conducted research on the Chief Executive Officers of all the Planned Parenthood affiliates throughout the United States,” the organization said in a new report. “The purpose of this research was to determine the salaries paid to the CEOs, their gender and their management backgrounds.”

More than 22 CEOs are paid in excess of $200,000 per year and the highest paid dozen heads of abortion businesses include:

1. PP North Texas, Dallas, TX (salary of previous CEO) $324,381
2. PP Mar Monte, San Jose, CA (Linda Williams) $315,950
3. PP Illinois, Chicago, IL (salary of previous CEO) $302,014
4. PP Hudson Peconic, Hawthorne, NY (Reina Schiffrin) $296,908
5. PP Northern New England, Williston,VT (Steve Trombley) $292,297
6. PP Orange & San Bernadino, Orange, CA (Joe Dunn) $278,871
7. PP Treasure Coast, West Palm Beach, FL (Lillian Tamayo) $275,238
8. PP MN, SD & ND, St. Paul, MN (Sarah Stoesz) $268,710
9. PP Heartland, Des Moines, IA (Jill June) $265,389
10. PP Southern New England, New Haven, CT (Judy Tabar) $264,766
11. PP Great Northwest, Seattle, WA (Chris Charbonneau) $259,405
12. PP League of MA, Boston, MA (Dianne Luby) $256,474
33
@27,

OK, PP doesn't perform mammography on the premesis. Since we haven't heard of anyone being arrested for fraud due to stealing SGK's money, they must still be performed somewhere. You know, kind of like a referral to a specialist.
34
Ok, apologies for the honest question. I seem to have set your troll into overdrive.
35
@31,

You are correct, it is amazing that an abortion would only cost about $466.50.
36
33

Well, we hear Congress is investigating.......
37
36

but not to worry, $900,000.00 will buy a lot of lawyers.....
38
@36,

One congressman making a statement to the media in order to get reelected on an antiabortion ticket doesn't make up much of an investigation. We should continue this line of query after they have at least one subcommittee session on the topic.
39
35

It IS amazing.

It would set you back a couple of grand to hire a punk off the street to whack someone.

Of course,
when you murder hundreds of thousands a year there is probably some economy of scale.

Plus,
babies don't put up much of a fight,
they are pretty easy to sneak up on. especially if their mother is in on the hit....

so, all in all, $500 bucks is probably reasonable.
40
38

That's what ACORN thought........

LINDA: Hi, my name is Linda, and I felt the need to do this video, due to the recent announcement from the Susan G Komen foundation about changes in their funding.

I have breast cancer, and I want to tell you what breast cancer is, and is not, to me.

Breast cancer is fear. It's being scared. It's the unknown. It's trauma. It's everything plus more. And I was so lucky to have a great team of doctors. A great oncologist, fantastic surgeons, and a husband who supported me every way throughout my entire two and a half year old ordeal so far.

And I'm still not done with treatment but it's going well thanks to the support and care that I've had. Most women don't have the same type of support. Many don't have any support at all.

What breast cancer is to me is getting a port installed in my chest. This is the first scar I'm going to show you, and by the way, if you're squeamish you may not want to watch this entire video because I'm going to show it all. You need to know what breast cancer is and what it is not.

The port was difficult, but it was necessary for the chemo. Then - the chemotherapy. Four and a half months of intense chemo which left me completely bald. Not a hair on my head. No eyelashes, no eyebrows - I didn't even have nose hair - I didn't have hair anywhere, and I was bald for nearly nine months.

Then came surgery. I had both of my breasts removed, numerous lymph nodes removed and my breast surgery - I was home the same day of my surgery for the 6pm news, with four tubes running out of my body into drainage bags. That's not simple but that is what breast cancer can be and what it was to me.

Next was radiation. I had one and a half months, five days a week of radiation so intense that by the time I was finished my skin was literally cracking, bleeding and falling off my chest. But that's what breast cancer is.

Then I had more surgery to remove my ovaries and my fallopian tubes. That wasn't easy either as I had abdominal surgery. I was in the hospital for five days for that.

Now I'm on medications that I'll be on for another three years, that make it difficult to sleep, which make my joints hurt, I've gained wait - I blame cancer on that - plus when I was finally able to eat normally after chemo without getting sick, I comforted myself with food. That's what cancer does. That's what cancer is.

But now I'm going to show you my chest. I used to have two beautiful girls here. Now they're gone. This is what cancer looks like. This is a bilateral mastectomy and I had lymph nodes removed under both armpits because the cancer had spread. This is not pretty but I'm going to tell you what cancer is not.

Do you see politics on my chest? Do you see Republican, Democrat, Tea Party or Independent anywhere on my chest? I don't. Do you see religion on my chest? Do you see Christian, do you see Catholic, do you see Jewish, do you see Hindu, do you see Muslim, or any other of the hundred religions out there? Do you see any beliefs on my chest? No! Do you see moral values on my chest, or what _you_ believe to be our moral values? No! That's not cancer at all. It's not on my chest and that's not it.

So, Susan G Komen, if you're seeing this video, I was such a proud supporter, but I can no longer support your cause, because politics, religion and God only knows what has infiltrated your program.

It's broken my heart. And I was so proud to be a member but I can no longer support you.

And one more thing. One thing cancer is? It makes you frank. It makes you say what you feel. It makes you no longer scared. When you're surviving, you're ready to fight the world, and I want to tell you something right now:

The foundation? You showed your ass. Now you can kiss mine.

Thank you.

@7 am I misunderstanding this? http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-u… that link show s how to qualify for a free mammogram from pp.
43
Before you get a referral to get a mammogram, you get a breast exam. A breast exam involves trained hands feeling for lumps and a trained visual exam, not a machine. Breast exams are commonly done at physical exams and/or gynelogical exams. Just like men get their prostrate digitally checked a physicals. The best way to fight cancer is to find it early, early detection is done through manual breast exams and visual examination.

By the way, neither my primary care physician or my OB/GYN has the ability to perform mammograms at the office. Just like there is no CT scan or MRI. It sounds really foolish and ignorant that people would call PP to schedule a mammogram, and call that evidence that PP doesn't perform any service to detect for breast cancer. The service they provide is the breast exam.
44
Thank you for explaining that, Kim. I was underestimating the technical nature of the test rather soundly it seems.
45
I think this pissing match between Komen and PP is missing the big picture:

Why the fuck do you need a charity to provide mammograms. This should be basic right for all citizens.

I love you guys but your health care system is crazy.

Another Canuck
46
@45 drawn,

When you put it that way...

*sheepish*

Peace.
47
@ 45 yeah, really.

I live in a very small town that is somewhat remote - that is, it's remote by the standards of most Americans, for Alberta it's pretty normal. Every year, the mobile mammogram bus comes through, and everyone who is due for one gets a notice, makes an appointment, and goes and gets her mammogram. Society as a whole pays taxes to support this, and society as a whole benefits from early detection of breast cancer. I can't imagine that any kind of private approach to this would be cheaper or more efficient - certainly the enormously complicated charitable infrastructure of SGK and PP and god knows what else must be terribly wasteful.
48
I got checked out during my breast cancer scare a year ago at a PP. It was the only place I could afford without having insurance. SGK cutting PP funding, even if it was restored later, makes me see SGK as less caring about saving women's lives and more caring about saving rich potential donors lives.
49
Awesome, powerful video. SGK has a history of questionable decision making. PP supports any woman who needs care and can't afford it. Yes, absolutely our country should be able to support health care for everyone as a basic right. It is damn near criminal that it doesn't. But just because a minority of religious people dislike abortion, the majority of the GOP is now trying to dismantle PP, to garner votes. That is the biggest crime of all. PP does not use government money for abortions. They are only 3% of PP's health care, and they are LEGAL. We have a RIGHT to have an abortion if we want one. I am sick and tired of other people trying to force their religious beliefs into my uterus.
50
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a great place to put your breast cancer charity dollars. My partner is celebrating her 5 years anniversary of beating breast cancer by running a fundraiser. Please check it out and donate if you can! https://support.bcrfcure.org/civicrm/con…
51
It's true. As great as Planned Parenthood is, breast exams--and all medical services for all citizens--should be paid for by taxes, not charity.

Fight for it, my friends. It really is better.
52
@45,

And Komen opposes universal health care.
53
Thank you, Linda, for that brave and inspiring video. You rock!

54
BUMPIT!!!
55
As a past PP employee; it's true you can't get a mammogram at most PP offices...that would be crazy, the amount of money that it would cost to run that machine, have a trained tech, and protect the staff from the radiation levels produced by the x-ray machine, is far beyond the PP budget. As said above the manual breast exam is the most important part, a referral for ultrasound and/or mammogram is the next step. The site I worked for had the ability to do fine needle biopsy's of lumps should they feel it necessary, all at non-profit prices.
56
There should a vehicle and massive support for this form of talk back. I love "it gets better", but if this woman can self-produce then anybody can, and should. power to the patients.
57
Real women's voices >>>>>> pinkwashing.

@43 Thank you for that.
58
@41 (Transcriber) - Thank you!!! :) My connection is being really wonky today and watching youtube videos in three- to five-second chunks is far more frustrating than just skimming the thread and trying to get the gist of the video from other people's comments, so I'm particularly appreciative of your transcription skills this morning. :) :)

Please wait...
