Cats and dogs - together in the streets. And inter-racial, inter-species, inter-planetary and non-kosher (if the cookie has lard in it) couples alongside the gay couple.
Still, I took it as "live and let live", "let's love one another" and "let other people love one another".
@4: I'd interpret the frog as allegorical but would rather the cat and dog were replaced by either a totally frumpy, white-bread couple or maybe the American Gothic farmer and wife. To be inclusive of boring folks like me because that's a stronger message.
This is Google, after all, so if someone posts a compliant about "The gay agenda" AND searches for gay porn*, they'd know. I don't think they should publicize that info, but it would be an interesting firestorm if they did.
Every time one of these things comes out, I'm amazed that there are still people who bother visiting Google's main page. Searching from the address bar ftw.
I saw that last night & smiled...
I actually thought the dude was a girl at first b/c of the ponytail. But he was so clueless that I finally clued in ;-)
The issue of consensual tentacle rape play is a touchy one in the astronaut/space-octopussexual community. Some people see it as a natural way of gaining power over the stereotypes they have to live with, some see it is shameful and demeaning, others simply don't like having the tentacles surrounded by constricting orifices. One thing is clear, it's not going away.
It didn't look like a pretense to me. How I saw it was the boy kept Googling for things to impress her and nothing worked and by the end he was sad and had given up. So he starts jumping rope because that's something he does. And then after all his Googling to find something she likes she sees something about him that He likes and she likes it too and then they click.
I thought it was really sweet. Which made me appreciate the nod to same-sex couples at the end. Sometimes Valentine's Day sentimentality just gets way too sugary but this was nicely done and there is Google saying that couples of all kinds experience love that way. Best Google doodle ever.
@14: I think the boy is carrying a backpack, not sporting a ponytail.
@10: Would the message have been any different if they'd been in the upper right quadrant?
Hi Erica: As a member of the anti-astronaut/space octopus alliance, I'm deeply offended that the abomination they represent should be depicted in a manner suggestive of eliciting amused approval. This is disgraceful!
@5.....granted yes the bible says that (or something to that effect) but it is not our job as man to judge what others do. If 2 men want to be together, let them be together. If 2 women want to be together, let them be together. It may not be the sight you want to see and it may be considered wrong in a lot of peoples eyes, but when it comes down to it.....Is it hurting you? Physically or Emotionally? Is it going to be the end of your world that they are together? Is it something you are going to be able to change? The answer to all these are NO! So let it be and let God be the one to judge and handle it. I may not agree with it but it doesn't hurt me in the least bit.....and I have gay and lesbian friends whom I adore and think the world of.....they are all the same as any of my other friends, except they are gay! Being gay doesn't change who the person is.....my children are autistic.....the autism doesn't change who they are to me. I love them through it all. I don't like it but I can't change it, so I learn to accept it, deal with it, love them no matter what and go on with my life. That should be the same way with everyone. You don't have to like it, you don't even have to like the person, but they do deserve to be respected just like anyone else.
@29 I'm pretty sure that there's a line in the bible which says that it's a sin to have cookies that are soggy with milk. Either way, it's pretty gross. Not that I'm against it, or anything.
nocutename@28: indeed, that was clearly a linguistic/semiotic manipulation of positive stereotypes to weasel-word their disgusting message of universal tolerance (as if cultural relativism hadn't been debunked!) into the developing brains and minds of our impressionable kids. How dare they!
It's nice to see Google has this sensitivity. It's funny when things don't go the stereotypical way; when Steve Jobs ends up looking a little like a control freak while Bill Gates contributes to important charity projects. In a world so full of hate messages, seeing that some people are doing something else it is quite heart-warming.
@39: I agree that I can choose to be upset that the primary couple is a straight white couple or I can find it rather heartwarming, and I happily choose the heartwarming option---which doesn't mean that I don't get to laugh/cringe over some aspects of it. I get and appreciate Mr. J's point. I just choose not to be upset by it. It's VD, after all . . .
@40, indeed. I sometimes wonder if the future of race/gender/social class relations in a possibly discrimination-free world won't depend on people consciously choosing the heartwarming option at some point -- burying the hatchet, as it were.
Still, I took it as "live and let live", "let's love one another" and "let other people love one another".
But, again, good job Google!
*There's a lot of overlap on that Venn diagram.
Secondly, note what Spalding Gray once referred to as the depiction of the ethnic/misc./3rd world people in their place in the lower corner.
I actually thought the dude was a girl at first b/c of the ponytail. But he was so clueless that I finally clued in ;-)

I'm Casey Kasem and I'll be back in a few minutes with more...of America's Top 100!
They grew up to be black and asian?
I thought it was really sweet. Which made me appreciate the nod to same-sex couples at the end. Sometimes Valentine's Day sentimentality just gets way too sugary but this was nicely done and there is Google saying that couples of all kinds experience love that way. Best Google doodle ever.
I like it, too, but there's nothing subtle about it.
@10: Would the message have been any different if they'd been in the upper right quadrant?
Perhaps my satire meter wasn't set on high. If this was the case, you can have a laugh at me!
Happy Valentine's Day, beautiful.
No, probably not. The miscellaneous races category couple just called to mind S.G.'s amusing analysis (was it in "Terrors of Pleasure"?).
@ 29 - sweetie, don't worry. We're snarky, but generally not haters. You'll come to recognize the actual trolls before long.
@41, that was mean! :-)
