1
Thank goodness. It was like being lost in a crowd, and then Slog reappeared, and it was the same feeling as when you hear a familiar voice in the din...
2
Pulitzer buzz too much for the site to handle?
3
The last five hours were tough. I got some shit done at work, frightening my bosses to death. I think they feared I was on drugs, all that uncharacteristic acttivity.

Who's Chicago Fan aka Bill Savage? Here's a partial description:
Bill Savage
Senior Lecturer in English & WCAS Advisor
1908 Sheridan Road
Telephone: (847) 491-8916
Fax: (847) 467-1545
E-mail: b-savage@northwestern.edu

But why does he Slog in Seattle? And is he related to Dan, originally from the same neck of the woods? Also, does the Stranger do nepotism?
5
Hooray! Yeah, like @ 2 I initially assumed the crash was a Pulitzer jinx.
6
@4, you herp your derp very earnestly, I'll give you that.
7
Whew. That was scary...
9
Gus, remind me to buy you a beer.
10
tap tap
11
Hey, back at you. Damn did I get a lot of playing in. I hope you used your time well, too.
12
How many near-sighted, opposable-thumb-only-fit-for-the-space-bar spawn will result from the Greater Stranger Blackout of 2012?
13
Can I have some fireworks & confetti for hitting "refresh" a million times?
14
A. Birch Steen pissed on the transformer? What?
15
It's amazing how productive I am when someone breaks Slog for a half a day.

Please don't ever do that again.
16
Thank god I can go back to lurking now.
17
Oh, and @4, you're new to Slog, aren't you?

If you had been here and paying attention for more than a few weeks, you'd know that of course that's Dan's brother. It's a fucking, blog. Dan can pretty much invite anyone to blog here that he wants. I've even been a guest blogger here for one day a couple years ago, and I'm just some deluded fan. This proves that they obviously have very low standards for who they'll allow posting privileges here.
18
Yeah, whatever happened to "Freaky Friday" anyway? I thought those were fun experiments. Now that this is a Pulitzer prize winning paper, are you above letting the lunatics run the asylum now and then?
19
Jesus. They're gonna have to fire Eli now, just to keep up appearances.
20
Hmmmm....I'm guessing that after the announcement, several thousand people simultaneously typed in "TheStranger" and the link to Eli's article and their servers crashed. The Stranger is a major website, but they don't normally need to pay for a server capacity to serve that huge of a surge in hits.
21
20: Nah, more like a coordinated schadenfreude attack from The Times, The Weekly, and Publicola.
22
You know, I rather enjoyed when Chicago Fan was this mystery voice reaching us from the heart of the Midwest, perhaps this highly placed liberal mole, something like a blogosphere Zorro. (Did Josh Feit move to Chicago?) Now to find out that he's Dan's brother, an English college professor at a glitzy school. At least that explains the knowledge of baseball's intersection with history and literature. (I'm still grooving on "Tinkers to Ebbers to Chance".)

And if Dan's a writer, newspaper boss, and national media figure, and his brother's a professor at Northwestern, somebody's parents did their job.

Speaking of power, for 2 hours this month, electricity in Germany...was FREE!

According to the European Electricity Index (ELIX) the cost of electricity on April 1, 2012, dropped to $-0.01, meaning that, for approximately two hours, electricity was free. This was a product of the German alternative energy system that has become more mature in recent months.

This system is comprised of solar, wind and hydrogen fuel systems that provide electricity to homes and businesses throughout the country. The countryโ€™s solar and wind industries were noted as being major contributors to the drop in the price of electricity seen this month.

@17 Wait a minute. You mean the guy from MythBusters is Dan's brother??? OMG!
26
I figured it must be back up, because I saw Mr. Hecht outside the Moore after Jeff Mangum played. Whew.
27
Why do they call it "Northwestern" when it's not in the northwest? Hmm?
28
So sacred..so very sacred on Monday...soo scared...
29
@27 I'm guessing that at the time of its founding, Northwestern was in the northwest, the northwest territory being the region of the Luisiana Purchase that was beyond the Ohio River:

All praised be for the Public Land Survey System!
30
@29 Right on, brother. @ 4, welcome aboard! What I want to know is how Dan, living in Seattle, is allowed to be on cable TV which goes everywhere. And the contact info is out of date; I've been promoted to "distinguished senior lecturer," which means I'm easier to see against a background.
31
Dan all but disappears when he turns sideways, CF... you must have expanded your outline!!
32
Dan goes to the gym more than I do. And drinks less beer, eats less red meat. I'm a midwestern guy.
33
@32, in profile Dan resembles an adam's apple perched atop biceps.

Please wait...
