I was waiting for this whole Brouhaha to make it to Slog at one point. This video is pretty great, so that works for me. Plus: 2 Million bonus points for "making fetch happen"

Great video. Too many gamer guys have a weird love/hate relationship with gamer women. Gamer women are hot but not when they have an opinion on gamer culture. And they wonder why more women don't game.

I wholeheartedly agree - one of the reasons I gave up on MMOs is because of the rampant misogyny (and homophobia, racism, general lack of maturity, etc) in the populace at large.

I had a lot of female friends playing WoW (a few of which I still keep in touch with, 5+ years later now), and grouping with one of them it was always either:

a) Hey lets all get in Vent, so that we can laugh at everything she says, and overly-sexualize every comment.

b) Treat her like a fucking idiot - and tell her what to CC, when to heal, make sure she knows the boss patterns, etc.

C) She's just one of the guys! (Which generally meant she was fat/ugly/old enough that no one wanted to fuck her).

This makes me very happy. Guys like this give me hope.

It's a great video and I love that he encourages other men to speak out - but unfortunately the majority of d-bags that behave this way won't even take notice of something like this...the whole "preachin' to the choir" thing. It's nice to be reminded that there are great feminist men in the world, though.

The group that starts a MMORPG that is 18+ over and is strongly moderated is going to make a mint.

I think it's nice this guy is trying to help, but Anita has already posted a video addressing the threats & harrassment from trolls. If it takes a man to get through to these boys that it isn't cool to harrass & threaten women, then it's little has been achieved. He's relying on their mysogyny for his voice to be heard. These boys don't need a gentle man to man chat, they deserve ridicule.

This vid isn't directed just to idiot gamers. It is directed at the non-idiot gamers. Speak up. Call it out.

It reminds me of Dan Savage calling on moderate Christians to disagree publicly with the homophobic evangelicals.

I would just like to know where all this money is going. It seems like she struck gold on kickstarter, but how is that going to go to the project. Her past videos didn't require that much cash, did they? Am I the only one who is for her goal of countering Internet sexism, but skeptical about the influence of all these donations?

Well fucking said. The amount of hate and stupidity on the Internet astounds me sometimes. The only online game I have played in the last 10 years was Journey. And that is because you can't talk to each other in that game.

It won't help. Reasoned arguments don't help, and simple ridicule only plays into their game. It is a boys club--there is no getting around that. Idiots band together and then attack outsiders. We can discuss this like adults here, but it doesn't work with them. I really don't feel that there is any way to be too cynical about these bastards.
