This is why we can't have nice things. Jerks.
2
It would not surprise me if everybody put many more times as much thought into why the criminals destroyed the art than the criminals did themselves.

I wouldn't think too hard about the neighbors of the park - Carkeek's a destination for folks from all over at all hours. One must assume at all times that there's at least one group of bored kids who could be from anywhere in town, wandering around looking for something to do beyond just smoking a bowl or two. Is it possible at night someone stumbling across one of these installations might reasonably assume they were something made on a whim by etsy enthusiast picknickers, and ripe for messing with, no harm done to whoever left them behind? Or are there signs all over them saying REAL ART LET IT ALONE ALL MORONS?

Whoever did this is a giant prick and all, but come on, public art (especially in secluded, unsupervised places) needs to be a little more durable than a structure made out of cardboard, or you have to expect some douchebag to come by and destroy it. That sort of installation is more like a sand castle. Enjoy it while it lasts, cause it isn't going to be long.

bums.

neighborhood kids playing?

The same thing happened to my piece entitled "Pile of Kingsford Briquettes."

on some level, perhaps a protest against "artists" taking over public space for what they feel is important. Don't you feel a bit trespassed upon when people have weddings in the park? or shoot car commercials there?

yeah these hooligans should have applied for public money for the arts, THEN burned this crap down, and called it performance art, THEN when people objected they could say "aha! it made you have an emotional reaction didn't it/" thu proving it was performance art.

stoopid hooligan. they coulda gotten some of that 1% for the arts. they don't even know it's only art, if you charge for it!

Please wait...
