Since the coal is being shipped under the auspices of superlib and Democrat fund donor Warren Buffet, it is doubtful anything will change its route.
A likely outcome is that envoros will complain loudly about warming, at which point the state will be allowed to put a fee or tax on it and maybe some regulations like hopper covers that have to be manufactured in Washington.
With everyone's pockets filled, suddenly coal will be praised by all sides for its potential as a "carbon reducing" fuel.
No shit about those email appeals for more money. I made a couple of very small donations to a couple of candidates (out-of-state) earlier this year. Very nice people IMHO. Want to see them in Congress. But holy shit - afterwards I was getting about 3 emails a day from both campaigns asking for more dough...which I don't have. Not angry at the two candidates, but it's a huge turn-off to be bothered like that.
BTW, I did ask both campaigns to cool it with the emails, and they both have done.
The Obama ad was pretty thin. It's an important topic, but they didn't have much footage to work with, so they film women voicing their personal opinions. Not particularly effective, I would guess.
@12, I'm not certain Gus meant 'terrific' in the sense that it's just dandy that the Midwest is really struggling with the heat wave. I think it more likely that he meant the story was terrific in that it put a human face on the effects of the drought, using a county/state fair tradition most of us are familiar with to illustrate the conditions on the ground in farm country.
Susan DelBene, Take Note: The Washington Post reports that constant emails asking for money drive donors, voters away.
Maybe Delbene's egregious, I dunno, I'm not on her list. But I'll note that I've gotten 27 emails from the Burner campaign in the last month (since July 5), almost one a day, even though I last contributed to her cavalcade of self-indulgent failure four (or was it six?) years ago.
@14, I repeat my suggestion to the Slog Overlords to bar people from registering usernames with numerals in them. They are always, always spammers. We've seen this "kaden" creature several times before. It would be fun to watch her or him pulled apart by horses, but barring that, how about making it impossible for them to register?
And now a teabagger bigot scumbag has shot up a Sikh temple near Milwaukee, killing at least seven and wounding perhaps twenty more. The shooter is reported a big fat bald white man.
I wouldn't want people to think I support the shooting of Muslims instead, but hear this, bigot morons: SIKHS ARE NOT MUSLIMS. The religions are not related and not even remotely similar. The incidence of hate crimes against Sikhs has been on the rise since 9/11, thanks to mouthbreathers who can't tell the difference between one kind of furriner and another.
Needless to say, millions of American Muslims will be feeing fear today as well, knowing that if the shooter had been equipped with just a few more points of IQ they would have been the target.
@19, you have a very peculiar sense of humor, dickhead.
"a witness to the shooting told law enforcement the shooter was a white male, bald, with a heavy build. He was wearing a sleeveless T-shirt, according to Oak Creek Patch. He was last seen with two handguns."
@17, I had no idea. What a tragedy. The first officer on the scene was shot several times while taking down the murdering fuck. He is now expected to survive. That man did his duty, putting his life on the line to stop the shooter harming even more worshippers. My heart goes out the families of those killed and wounded, and all those put in fear.
Mike the Intern: I think people have less sympathy for dead fish used as bait. Now, if those folks had tried to terrorize the shark...
Everyone else: We all know what the shooting looks like and it wouldn't be the first time Sikhs are violent victims of racism, but lets wait until more info is released.
"Loughner, who allegedly shot Gabrielle Giffords and others..."
Unpaid Intern (and SLOG Editorial Policy setters) I realize the man has not been convicted, but I am unaware of anyone who is disputing the basic facts of this case. Loughner shot those people; the question is to what extent he is culpable.

You and I...we get to breath the coal dust.

Totally thin. I mean, who wants to hear women voicing their opinions?
SHARK WEEK
I also love TERRIFIC STORIES, esp. about people suffering. HaHa rural folk. Reminds me of the awesome footage of that Japanese tsunami.

I gotta see the link where "big fat bald white man" appears. That's too 'funny'. Sounds like a Colbert description.
