Stone cold, indeed. Unless that's a trap door, then it's wonderfully ironic, in a stone cold sorta way.

Want to see some graffiti that's the shit? Go look north of the ship canal at all the tags from graffiti "artists" who ruin everyone else's actual ART.

Like the jerk who tagged the Fremont Troll and keeps doing it.

Just sayin ...

Speaking of Fremont, no mention of the public suicide there by waiting for the interurban yesterday. No coverage to speak of except fremont universe, who just has a blurb.
4
@3, given the rate of violent death in Seattle it won't get covered unless its a group suicide of at least 6 people.
5
@3 if people want their suicides publicized, they need to do them on the campus of a well known university.

The person who spray painted that is a little shit.

thanks mudede for providing the reference to a real problem in the community and to something that happened yesterday. i am disturbed that the media in seattle as a community is basically pretending it didn't happened. a man shot and killed himself in front of traffic on a busy sunday in fremont.
I could not believe what happened in fremont. a friend had the unfortunate circumstance to have witnessed it. It was so shocking to me that there was no mention of it anywhere. The only info is if you go to the crime map on the spd map which i did because in this sick and twisted world it was the only way i could know it was real. i slogged tipped it and sent it to king 5 but then a friend told me:

TV news has a rule of not publicizing suicides so as to not give the people who did it attention so others don't copycat. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-02-16/we…

Weighing up the risks of reporting suicide
www.abc.net.au
We tiptoe around the issue of suicide but still hundreds of young people lose their lives."

ill say here what i said there:
i mean that makes sense i guess but it would seem that people who have gone so far as to feel ostracized from society are almost validated in their belief that they were not a part of the community when someone kills themselves in such a dramatic way and the community pretends like nothing happened. I had to check the crime data statistics on SPD website just to reify that it was true.

@3 - It's been found in studies that media coverage of suicides increases the suicide rate, most likely because coverage puts the idea of suicide on people's minds, leading vulnerable people to latch onto it. That's why suicides attract little or no coverage unless the person was famous - because the media understands that it is publicly harmful and therefore unethical.

DO it Chuck, DO IT!!!! (Please....)

Remember the good old days when people would just jump off the Aurora Bridge and go splat?

The funny part was they thought they'd hit the water.

Ah, good times.
10
@8 Classy, and once your grow out of being jr. league internet sociopath, the sort of fucktarded comment that will come back to haunt you.
11
I definitely feel l'appel du vide when I'm on that bridge.
12
@3: I would refer you to some media guidelines on the reporting of suicide:

http://depts.washington.edu/mhreport/qt_…
http://reportingonsuicide.org/

The media often doesn't report on suicides because if they do it incorrectly, they increase the probability of copycat suicides.
13
What's the point of this posting? Glorifying graffiti by highlighting random "artists"?
14
I believe current suicide rates around here would be x10 if we were not undergoing pharmacological treatment en-masse.
15
Keep a can of Goof Off, a stiff brush and an old towel around. Bring it with you next time you cross the bridge.

There's no point in talking about graffiti, or complaining, or exhorting these guys to suck less. The ones that suck don't care. Just clean it up quick as you can.

Graffiti on public property can be reported to Seattle Public Utilities and they clean it up quickly. I have just reported this one, since no one else mentioned doing it.
