Good Evening Charles,
There's nary a doubt in my mind that Pres. Obama & Gov. Christie are handling this disaster well (they actually have no alternative BUT to handle it well and without politics). Evidently, a few polls reflect that. Good on them, Obama & Christie. I wish the people of New Jersey well.
However, super storm Sandy ISN'T Hurricane Katrina. Bush wasn't running for re-election a mere week and a half before that crisis. And, New Orleans isn't New Jersey. The latter is greatly damaged but not like the former was. Also, New Jersey has far fewer casualties. This is an "October Surprise" all right that remains to be played out.
as the pathetic responses in 3 and 9 indicate, this situation has worked out very well for Obama. The incumbent looks great by doing what he should do and doing it well. Romney is neutered because negative attack ads (which are the only thing he has) just won't work right now.
Add in how this NECC/Meningitis thing has suddenly started to sink its claws into Romney, and I think this momentum deadlock will start shifting back to Obama just when it needs to.
