I can't believe the driver of that car was able to stay on the road after being hit by what must be a thousand pounds of airplane tire. In fact, they both managed to stay on the road and pull over. Now that's terror!

Well, it's nice that the troll has a new cause, isn't it? People in highly structured environments need some variety in their life.
6
The Troll knows full well that it's not "gun violence" when it's coming from members of one of our vulnerable communities, then it's a 'social' justice issue. Eli Sanders must be on holiday.

Stupid troll.

A largely unused industrial site in Bridgeport is being prepared for construction of the largest fuel cell power plant in North America, giving a possible boost to the alternative fuel and economic development in Connecticut's largest city.

Why are all these dashboard videos coming out of Russia? Does every vehicle in Russia have a dash cam running all the time? WTF?
9
@8: I read somewhere that Russian insurance companies won't pay out unless you have proof that the other numbskull caused the accident, which is why nearly everyone has a dash cam there. Sure makes for some amazing footage.

Ha @ item 3. "Breaking: Wind". Well played, intern. Well played.
11
@7 So, natural gas burned to produce huge amount of electricity, some of which is stored in batteries of novel design.

Speaking of gun violence.

My son was playing the PC version of Call of Duty 3: Black Ops. I hadn't used it for quite a while and it really helps to have Steam update it for you automatically. (Also nice was that he figured out how to get the Logitech Rumble Pad 2 to work so he didn't have to fiddle with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I don't have a console, but I built my own gaming PC and hooked it up to the HDMI port on the TV).

What I saw though disturbed me a bit. The scenario (and this was one being played on many many servers by hundreds or thousands of people) was a playing field called Nuketown. Basically teams of 10 players, having low ranking military credentials, shoot it out. Nuketown is based on one of those model suburban towns they built in the Los Alamos desert to test the effect of an atom bomb blast. It's all done up in High 1950s style. Other than the players/soldiers, there are all these mannequins standing around, like a wife in a dress in the kitchen or kids playing outside, people walking to a movie theater. There is also a yellow schoolbus in the street (used for cover when shooting).

So there you have it. Nuketown. Newtown. Shooter in a suburban house, with a Mom in the kitchen and a schoolbus. For someone playing in a darkened basement, 16 hours a day non-stop and little or no human contact, "could" (as Giorgio Tsoukalos would say) this have been an educator for Mr. Lanza's spree once he make a psychotic break from reality and entered the virtual world inside his own mind?

Here's an even crazier and more paranoid take along the same lines:

1. supreme rule, they have violent video games in japan and england too, but fewer gun deaths, because they did what works: gun controls.
2. troll, you're right, slog should cover the belltown shooter. but the fact that in america the average joe who's a low level gang banger gets ez access to guns? that doesn't happen in japan or england or australia. again, they do what works: gun controls. so yes, let's talk about gun violence, and let's talk about how it disproportionately impacts minorities and even how too many minority folks are in the gang lifestyle -- the reason they kill is all these other gun owners in america with the 280 million guns all over have created a political environment in which we can't do what works: gun controls. thus, the legal gun owners empower the idiot kids who shoot, the gangbangers, as well as the white kids from the burbs like the lanza kid. see the common element: it's lack of strong gun controls, this leads to guns all over, this leads to illegally used guns, therefore the notion that legal guns make us safe is demonstrably false. they simply empower illegals (those using guns illegally) to get their guns. they are in symbiosis with the nra members, fairly unbalanced, 5280 and the other gun worshipping gun lovers who block us from doing what they did in australia.

guns, legally made widespread, cause our high rates of death through illegal use of guns. this means you gun owners are to blame; your desire to prevent gun controls stops us from having good and strong gun controls, thus we will see more deaths. thus, I blame you.
(note: not in the execution death peanlty sense or aiding and abbetting criminal sense -- just morally, sociologically, and politically. Precise enuf for u now?)

oops the bellevue shooter.

it could also be a culture of negligible or nonexistent coping skills or outright stupidity.

"Let's double the patrons to beyond our stated capacity. Mobs of young men after a sports event never do any damage in gunland, only in "tyranny" places like Vancouver BC because those dudes didn't carry guns." This logic makes sense to people who run Munchbar

Wonder what underage assmunch is gonna prove his manhood after the Seattle/St. Louis game in a bar. Because sports audiences = gummint tyranny or sutin. I dunno, maybe someone who understands the brains of these assmunches and irresponsible bar management/security can translate the logic.

@13, you should register. Otherwise people here will think you're a troll and won't read you.

1 and 2 are spot on. I posted a similar comment a few days ago and it wasn't published. I noticed the Stranger is more likely to publish stories on crimes that happen half way around the world then 3 blocks from the Stranger's office. A few months ago Charles Mudede published story after story about incidents of Jewish Isrealis targetting Arabs and black immigrants for violent crime. Yet none of those incidents were any worse then black on white and black on Asian crimes that have been epidemic in Seattle for years. Odd that a Jewish on black or Jewish on Muslim crime that occurs half way around the world is more likely to be published in our "hometown" paper then similar or worse crimes that occur frequently on Cap Hill or in King Co.

1 and 2 are spot on. I posted a similar comment a few days ago and it was removed. I noticed the Stranger is more likely to publish stories on crimes that happen half way around the world then 3 blocks from the Stranger's office. A few months ago Charles Mudede published several stories about incidents of Jewish Isrealis targetting Arabs and black immigrants for violent crime. Yet none of those incidents were any worse then black on white and black on Asian crimes that have been epidemic in Seattle for years. In fact, none of the incidents reported in Isreal even were murder or attacks on vulnerable people- unlike James Parlone, Tuba Man, Danny Vega, the multiply attacks on people in wheelchairs, pregnant woman and elderly blind man assaulted and robbed on the bus, in Seattle, . Yet Charles made it a point of pointing out the perps were Jewish and the victims black or Arab. Has the Stranger ever done that with any black on white or black on Asian crime in Seattle? Hell, no! Odd that a Jewish on black or Jewish on Muslim crime that occurs half way around the world is more likely to be published in our "hometown" paper then similar or worse crimes that occur frequently on Cap Hill or in King Co. And God forbid if anyone suggests they are targetting people because of race. Yeah, people come from the Rainier Valley to Cap Hill and rob or attack white people. Not racial. Whites go into Rainier Valley and rob or attack blacks=hate crime. Jews rob or attack blacks or Arab in another country=hate crime. Noticing when blacks do it here=racist!

Man, if they start putting handguns or rifles in the classroom, we need to start wearing loincloths and change the name of this country to Thunderdome. I'm thinking that the NRA and others are using a negotiating ploy: ask for something beyond the pale and outrageous so that you can settle on what you really want making it look as though you gave in. What these people really want is an armed guard - and boy-oh-boy is that ever a stupid idea as well.

Nice to see university hierarchy irked at something. It's total revenge. I was constantly irked in school. Irk by the $8 half-sandwich and cup of soup in the cafeteria. Irked by ever-changing textbooks costing $90 and up. Irked by every raise in the amount of student loan money available met with a same amount rise in tuition. Irked by less than stellar professors.

Is Katt Williams going to have a career left?

Sandiai @17, thanks for that link. I share your admiration for her. She is evidence for the notion that maintaining intellectual engagement and adhering to principle are contributing factors to a long, rewarding life.

(I believe she's related—aunt or great-aunt?—to the Apple Macintosh shareware author Alessandro Levi Montalcini, but I can't find confirmation at the moment.)
23
@17 thanks rob! That's interesting about Alessandro Levi Montalcini. Biographies of scientists are sort of a hobby of mine. None of Rita's sisters are in the Wikipedia or the Google, so it's hard to find info on her relatives. Here's an interesting picture though:

My favorite family of related geniuses (artistic or scientific) are the Baron-Cohens. I had been reading articles by Simon Baron-Cohen for years before I made the connection with Sasha (well, Sasha doesn't hyphenate his name).
24
Obviously, that was for @21.
25
Why should The Stranger be responsible for reporting on local crime? That's what the The Times, the PI, and the local TV stations live for, in loving, gory detail. Comment on one of those sites if you feel the need to be outraged. You'll have plenty of company,
28
Oh troll, there's no need to feel inadequate about being from Bellevue. I'm sure there are some lovely neighborhoods over there.

And while crime is "scary", you are probably very safe. This was Just One Of Those Things.

In the meantime, I'm sure the Journal-American or Eastside Week will have an article that is very pleasing to your worldview.
29
Gratuitious? What would be a prudent use of the N-word?
30
@26 Goldy doesn't want to remind us that the Black Panthers were part of the first bat-shit crazy, we need guns to defend ourselves from the gub'ment movement.

And since when did Bellevue get so ghetto? Is this why Kemper doesn't want a train running from the CD to Bellevue Square?

@28 oh Catalina, go look at the 2010 census, your Capitol Hill paradise is whiter than Bellevue. In fact Seattle is just as white as Bellevue.
31
Thanks for covering the Antarctic lakes news, unpaid intern. It's an issue that is more important than the coverage that the world press has given it. Its kind of the equivalent of the explorers bringing smallpox to all the world's societies that didn't have it centuries ago. We never learn...
32
Troll love, I haven't lived on Capitol Hill since 2000. I'm a Beacon Hill housewife.
33
....and, by the way, just how did we get on the topic of the relative whiteness of Seattle and Bellevue?

I worry about you, troll. You better believe I keep a candle burning for you over by St. Peter's. It's the least I can do.
34
Funny how Andrew S. @20 says the same thing nearly word for word as unregistered @19 "Kelly H". How many more sock puppets do you have Andrew?
35
Am I to understand that Mr. Williams checked with all of bitchdom and got his pass from someone to use the word "bitch" as gratuitously often as possible?
36
@34

Damn you for making me look!

But since I did, I noticed that they even have the same misspellings.
37
@8 Yeah cops are so easily bribed that official reports were useless for insurance claims so dashcams became pretty much factory standard in Russia.

Please wait...
