Whoa. What the...? Whoa.
2
It's a "gas gun" according to some of the articles I have read. So does that mean it's like tear gas? And did it not go off?
3
The AP described the 'gun' as a nonlethal gas pistol.

None of this shit would happen if there were common sense restrictions on BB guns.

It's sadly comforting to see some non-US weirdness for a change.

@3 is correct. Gas pistol is often used as a term to describe a CO2 powered air pistol, usually shooting .177 pellets. I've been shot w. them a few times (you get very bored growing up on a farm, and often have to make your own 'fun') and they do certainly hurt/break skin/cause bleeding, etc...but it'd be tough to kill someone.

I think the Turks are treated badly pretty much everywhere, except maybe Germany. But it all evens out because they in turn persecute Kurds and a few other resident minority populations, and of course there was the whole Armenian genocide, so...I guess it all works out.

Not happy to see violence at any political event anywhere on the weekend before President Obama's second inauguration.

Depressing to see a bunch of suited pols keep trying to kick the shit out of the assailant when security had him pinned down, including one white-haired old gent near the end of the video clip. Makes me wonder how long before fisticuffs again become a regular occurrence in Congress.

They were much more common in the 1800's and early 1900's, of course, but even in 1945 you had segregationist Representative John Rankin of Mississippi squaring off against New Dealer Rep. Frank Hook of Michigan, nominal Democrats both. And with Dick Cheney and John Boehner (Republicans both) telling Patrick Leahy and Harry Reid, respectively, to go fuck themselves, the stage is pretty well set.

Nationality is defined in Eastern Europe in ways it is not defined in America or Canada. IN Can-Am, nationality is conferred upon anyone born in either country, or anyone who acquires it through naturalization (Jus soli).

In Bulgaria and many other European states, nationality is a birthright (jus sanguis). You are Bulgarian if you are ethnically Bulgarian. Even if your family has resided in Bulgaria for centuries, if you are ethnically a Turk or Roma, you are not Bulgarian and never can be. Whatever the law says about your rights, you will always be perceived as an outsider.

The Far Right in the US is not as extreme as the Fr Right in Bulgaria. Ataka (the neo-fascist party that holds seats in Bulgaria's parliament) promotes the idea that all the country's woes can be blamed upon the Roma and the Turk. centuries-old antagonisms dating back to the Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria are exacerbated by the overheated rhetoric of politicians such as Volen Siderov.

But do not be so self-righteous as to judge these Bulgarians. The United States is veering dangerously close to the same path, with politicians advocating the loss of citizenship for those born in this country. More and more, we are being told to blame the Latino for our country's woes. If we are not careful, this video could be our future, too.

Shouldn't forget the October 1999 Armenian parliament shooting.

If only that assassin had a gun, he wouldn't have got beaten up by those leftists.
11
I note that the experts rushed toward the gunman. And I don't consider myself super crazy, but if someone pointed a gun at me or my family or a friend, I'd be be very generous with the boot, given the opportunity. And nobody knew it was pellet gun at that point.
12
Pellet guns at that range certainly can be lethal. It's not totally unheard of. And he was going for another weapon on the ground (maybe the knife?). Who knows. So yeah. Shit stomp that mother fucker.

Also. Awesome that even fucking Bulgaria has stricter gun control laws than the US.

What about that _other_ gas-pistol wielder whose image the camera "conveniently" didn't capture? Wake up, Bulgarian sheeple!

Please wait...
