Modern solar cells tend to have a 20-40 percent conversion rate. Biofilms run in the 8-12 percent range.

@3 no, the energy density is not high enough. Better to use steam like the Doc did.

That is actually a really massive amount of land when you think about it - is Chile really gonna want that sizeable an area of their mountains, stretching from their border to their coastline, covered in solar panels? And isn't that going to have pretty considerable effects on the ecosystem there?

.... why not FLOAT all of those solar panels, way the fuck out in the ocean in some of those red zones!? Eureka!
