At least 5% of the poll's respondents would pretend to believe some or all of this stupid shit just as a goof. Probably 10%.
I hope Nate Silver writes a column on this.

Do you believe the Bush administration intentionally misled the public about the
possibility of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to promote the Iraq War, or not?
Do ............. 44%
Do not ...... 45%
Not sure .... 12%
It's good to see that people who believe George W Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction are now equated with those who believe in Bigfoot or Lizard people. God bless the USA!
Unfortunately the polling institution got one thing wrong: contrails are neither "sinister chemicals" sprayed by the government nor are they, as the pollsters assert, exhaust. It's a trail of water vapor caused by pressure at the planes' wingtips.
Or so the aerodynamic engineers would have you believe...
In a country where roughly half believe that the Bible is a literally true scientific and historical document, I find a lot of those numbers in the single digits and teens downright heartening.
In my time on this earth, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that 15% of the people out there are batshit crazy. Line up 20 random people and three of them will be freaking nuts.
That's just the number I've come to after a lifetime of dealing with the public.
Coincidentally, look at the craziest option on any poll and the number is always 15%...
It is about infinity times more likely that there is a bigfoot than that there is a god, which isn't saying much about odds, but says a lot about our society.
not to sound all tom cruise or anything, but i kinda believe that about the pharmaceutical companies inventing illnesses. i don't mean manufacturing diseases in a lab or deliberately making people sick, but identifying conditions that can be fixed by simple lifestyle alterations and calling them diseases for which they just happen to have treatments to sell you. convincing people that they "need" medication. the real money is in keeping people sick (or convincing them that they are) and treating symptoms, and big pharma preys on peoples' vulnerabilities, ignorance and laziness. i'm not against medicine, certainly not against science, but just as with the food industry, i have a deep mistrust of the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA - i'm seriously skeptical that they are actually working in the patients' best interests.
People who see connections and meaning in everything represent the worst aspects of our culture. We need to out them as the hateful people they are at every opportunity. As we actively work to rid society of their kind we must be sure to set aside a select few to be used as detectives.
Who do you think was on the grassy knoll? Elves?
I hope Nate Silver writes a column on this.

Case in point.
Constructed by Obama, the Antichrist.

Congress' approval rate always seems to hover around 15%.
Coincidence? I think not.
No, no. Like #22 says, 15 percent are bugnuts insane. Far, far more are stupider than a bag of hammers.
