This is a tiny thing, but I like how he qualifies that he consumed too much alcohol "with dinner." Because it sort of implies a charming dinner with parishioners or something. Which it may have been, but it doesn't matter where you drink too much. The drinking too much to the point where you are driving drunk and doing all sorts of other stuff is what matters.

...they'd still be asshole hypocrites. Pretty sure it's not God that drives the bishops so much as the completely illusory authority their "proximity" to God grants them.
