There's also the wristwatches. Three different companies.

Dick Tracy here we come!
2
If my experience with Kindle Fire is any indication of the quality of their hardware, then fuck this phone.

I tried a 3D smartphone in a shop before buying a then-high-end Samsung, about two or three years ago. It was nifty (and the 3D display actually did work for me, at least on still images; I didn't try a movie), but ultimately pointless, even by the standards of smartphone features. I haven't yet heard of a use for the 3D to justify it.
4
@3 Who needs more than 640k?
5
Sooo... a 3D GUI interface... that will interface with 99.9% standard 2D aps and web sites out there? What is the god damned point of that gimmick?

Or: Who, prey tell, is designing these 3D web pages and aps and with what non-existent web 3D standard/language?

Microsoft hasn't exactly been so on the cutting edge of current web standards compliancy. In fact they are STILL a decade behind with all their web technologies.

So pardon me while I call BUUUULLLSHIIIIIIT!
6
Ah, but which 3 D's?

Height, Width, Depth?
Been there, done that.

Height, Width, Time?
Oh, now that might get me to switch phones.

7
@5 VRML!
8
@5, you are aware that Amazon and Microsoft are different companies, no?
9
@4 We got to the goddamn moon with 1.5k. Nobody needs any more than that.
10
@6, Time would be awesome.
11
@6 - I call it a Time And Relative Dimension In Phone or TARDIP.
12
Oh, and the quote should be "who needs more than 640GB".

Multi-terabyte SSD are fairly common nowadays, even keychains have more than 640k storage, and literal "memory" tends to run in the gigabyte range.

Love @11's idea. Now if it just came with a beard for instant hipster cred ...
13
@12, you've got 640 KB on your keychain? You must be a time explorer....from 1999! Except that there has never been a 640 KB thumb drive. Unless you meant MB, in which case you're still, what, eight years behind? Unless you meant GB, in which case you're...full of shit.

As always.

Will in Seattle: incapable of writing even one accurate sentence on any technological concept since 2006.
14
I'm just puzzled at what concept Useless Will was trying to convey with the phrase 'literal memory'.

Hey, Will? With the number of times your stupidity has been called out here by Fnarf and others, how do you get over your cringing embarrassment and work up the courage to ever post anything? That is a serious question.
15
@14, that's the real mystery of WiS. Lots of people are wrong on occasion, but only Will has made a career out of it. And no one in the history of the internet has been so shameless about showing off his lack of knowledge, awareness, appropriateness, or basic English skills. On top of his inability to get any fact about anything right, and his incredible volume of stupidity, he writes worse than Google Translate.
16
I almost never use the 3D on my 3DS.
17
Stranger still, he has a link to his own Facebook page in his slog signature.

And his Facebook page notes his employer.

It's like he's begging someone to call his boss and report what a toolbag he is. Especially given how often he posts during the work day.
18
@12: Jesus Christ, man... Is the phrase "literal 'memory'" your attempt to reference RAM? And yet you'd still have us believe that you're one of the architects of the Internet? Just... wow.
19
Amazon is working to take over the world. Maybe someone needs to investigate if their DNA is human.

I know, get Charles to do it. (I'm only half-kidding. Maybe Amazon is the alien zombie apocalypse)
20
@8 oops. Yes. Sorry. Mis-read

However, the comment can STILL apply to Amazon, though they aren't the roadblock to actual innovation that Microsoft universally is.

I submit to you that Amazon has frigg'n tables (and in some cases in-frigg'n-line CSS) on their website for fuck sake. Of course that's a likely an unhappy response to shittyness and perversity that is Explorer. So we are back to Microsoft.

Please wait...
