There's few tell-tail signs a performer has lost their mind as certain as the wireless mic.
2
I bet the people he insults gave him a bunch of money. Fools.
3
This old boy has a fistful of pride. Gonna be his downfall, yes it will.
4
One of the things I dislike the most about patriarchal religions: The, "I love you but only as long as you do everything exactly as I want you to do, because I know what's best for you," idea reminds me too much of my abusive ex.
5
@ 4 YES. I was just going to say that. That impression struck me a minute ago.
6
Seems like young brother Cox made use of the powers of his little video room kingdom by posting the tape of this hissy fit online. Good for him. I hope he also left that church, as I hope half the congregation did, too.
7
Wonder exactly how many times he's checked if Cox was a 'grown man'
8
Wow. Quite the man of god...
9
What a dick. I mean, really. STFU old man.
10
IM is the tool of the devil.
11
Wow. As a kid, I once threw one of those "bang snap" things on the floor during a sermon and all my Lutheran pastor said was "Sounds like the July 4th is coming early this year."
12
Well, for one, I would NEVER attend a church like that. Gross.
13
My cat looks really perturbed listening to this.
14
I like how bored most of the other people seem.
15
There are over eighty billion things I'd rather do on a Sunday than go to church. Ninety billion if it's that guy's church.
16
He should be a stand-up comedian. Seriously! How great would that be?
17
A pale imitation of the late, great, totally insane Gene Scott.
18
Saying "It amazes me that people to go to church on purpose" using that video as evidence is like posting a video of Sarah Palin and saying "It amazes me that people get involved in politics on purpose."

This nutbag doesn't represent all churchgoers any more than Palin represents all politically active people.
19
I mean, I can't really decide if I'd rather see him deliver this sermon in a comedy venue, or a more standard and typical comic routine, but in this tone and demeanor. Either one would be awesome, I think.
20
A guy whose written about S&M for like 15 years doesn't get why a mob of people give money to go every week and be abused by a first class prick?

Bunch of subs, no dungeon around, wouldn't admit being in the market for a dom anyway. So they find one of these churches and get their rocks off. And somebody puts the porn on the internet.
22
Toward the end there, when he was calling out Cox, I couldn't help but think that he sounded like he thought he was God - if you submitted to me, you would know my heart.

I haven't been an evangelical for a long, long time, but from what I recall, those are things one should only say or think when referring to God, not your narcissistic pastor. The whole point of being a "born-again" Christian is that you answer to no priest or clergy - you only answer to God (well Jesus, but they believe Jesus is God). Apparently, this pastor has forgotten that and considers himself to be the personal savior for his entire "flock".

For the sake of all the people in that room, I hope he and his wife do pack up and leave in their "paid for" vehicle. It's guys like this that helped make me an ex-Christian.
23
Wow, flashbacks of abusive husband. He at least had the excuse that he was drunk when he went off on "You will submit to me" BS - what's this guy's excuse.
24
I would go to that church just to get a hug...and then knee him repeatedly in the groin. In all seriousness, though, I'm scared for his family members. If he pulls this shit in public, I can only imagine what he does at home.
25
WE DO IT LIVE!
26
Jesus wept.

"This nutbag doesn't represent all churchgoers any more than Palin represents all politically active people. "

Actually, he does.

So long as mainstream moderate religious churchgoing folks allow themselves to be used as a shield of respectability for religious extremists and don't object vociferously, they are complicit. For an example of said objections, check out some the NALT Christians Dan has linked to, like John Shore.

This is why so-called RINOs object to the extremists that have so thoroughly infested the Republican party - because they know that to not speak up is to allow their silence to stand for approval of their views. And they pay the price for speaking up. A price they damn well should be willing to pay.

To be fair, you did say the nutbag didn't represent all churchgoers. Fair enough.

But he represents such a vast majority it might as well be all of them. And yes, I'm including the silent objectors in the majority. They have the power to move themselves out of that category at any time.

@27 To be fair, the media loves giving attention to the right-wing screwball Christians because the media thrives on conflict.

Exhibit A is the ongoing fascination with the Westboro Baptist Church, a tiny, insignificant bunch of screwball attention whores who've managed to find the media's buttons and keep pushing them relentlessly.

Christians behaving in a Christ-like manner just doesn't get the same ratings.
29
Wow! That takes me back to my fundie xtianist days like nothing else. The pride and arrogance of 'pastors' like him. What a stench in FSM's nostrils that *any* mortal man could be so full of himself. Gag.
30
I thought this whole church thing was supposed to be about God's Love, not Preacher's Ego.
31
@ 3:00, The Reverend Jim Standridge rises to pulpit, says:
There's no one finer than young Cox back there. And he comes down here and spends hours in that thing.

C'mon people. He just wants Cox to submit to his will. What's so wrong with that?
32
I go to church on porpoise (Unitarian Universalist), and I like it. And if a preacher were to start yelling at the congregation like that, I'd get up and walk out. Bet money a lot of others would too.
33
Ophian @31: A video room occupied by distracted Cox means less purposeful Cox in Standridge's Kingdom. And that's shame; he obviously needs Cox, now more than ever.
34
You allow yourself to be spoken to like that? Why? Why do you feel so insignificant? The last - and I do mean the last - person who spoke like that to me was a sergeant major. I didn't have a choice.

You religionists have some serious dom/sub issues that you need to address.
35
@18: even from just 34 comments, there are already 2 or 3 (including me) who had encountered a version of this douchebag in their pasts. That's nearly 10%, a larger percentage than teh gayz in the general population. He is not just an isolated nut case ...
36
But there's free food on Easter.
37
@35 - A sample size of 34 consisting entirely of SLOG comments doesn't make for very good data. You might as well poll your friends while your at it.
38
My God, I can smell his aftershave through the computer.
39
This mother fucker's got a whole website full of his hilarious sermons!
The hardest part is to see how weak and cowardly his congregation is, but they're choosing to live in fear. Kinda weird if you ask me.

40
Sounded better in the original German.
41
Young Cox spends hours in that thing.
42
@27 - You're basing your comments on how many different churches that you've visited? And across how wide a spectrum? That guy is waaaaay out there in Loony Toons land. Based on my lifetime experience of visiting well over a hundred churches and my meetings with hundreds of pastors, I can tell you that not a single one was anything like this narcissistic control freak.

His congregants are definitely masochistic to put up with that kind of sh*t from him. In my denomination (United Methodist) that guy wouldn't even get ordained.
43
@34: Who are you talking to? Even among the hardcore churchgoing crowd, folks who'll just sit there and take abuse from the preacher like that are few and far between.

There's a reason this was remarkable enough to become an internet item of interest.
