Wow. That photo was just redolent of old money, smoking jackets and stiff dancing...

Yes, Dan. Be contrarian. Then you don't actually have to acknowledge critique!

U MAD, BRO????

(In all seriousness, though, I am really, really glad that weird argument has run its course)

I'm an unemployed white gay man who got married last week. I went down to the county clerk's office yesterday to get a copy of my marriage certificate. At the window to the left of me were two Latino men getting married. At the window to the right of me were two white women getting married.

Wait was this a thing?

As ever, dichotomous thinking and stubbornness are your twin weaknesses. Both are unbecoming on you.

Yes, white Capitol Hill people, this is a thing: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/todd-clayt…

None of which lessens the importance of rights and privileges just won by gay people of color in New Mexico. None of which diminishes their joyous occasion.

And none of which protects them from being randomly profiled, detained, and treated as sub-human by racist gubernatorial edict the moment they cross into Arizona.

Wow, civil rights are complicated! Who knew? (Certainly not comfortable white people. Thus the legitimacy of the meme.)

@6 - I assume Dan is talking about people who say things along the lines of "only rich white gay men care about marriage equality" and not people who coherently point out the differences between other civil rights movements and mariage equality, or people who point out that this is one of many fronts of discrimination for gay people of color (and maybe not the most pressing). I have read articles that cross that line, claiming that marriage equality is only a white gay issue, which is absurd. It might be a higher priority for some white gays, but it is certainly also a very high priority for some gay people of color as well.

Here are a bunch more glorious photos of the rainbow of people who took part in Tuesday's weddings in Albuquerque: http://www.kylezimmermanphotography.com/…. Enjoy!

Thanks Katwoman! It was a an amazing day, a crazy cacophony of bliss, people getting marriage licenses after living lives together for over forty years... The room was full of so many different kinds of people. Pure sea of acceptance. Every time someone came out of the room with a fresh marriage certificate the crowd cheered and stomped.
So much fun.

Please wait...
