So now we know why gays use jewelry.
2
Oh, Dan... tsk, tsk...

Nice thought, pressuring CBN to drop crazy ol' Pat, but there's one little problem:

It's his network. He's the founder and his son is CEO.

How about pressuring cable companies to drop CBN? At least that's actually possible.

Pat Robertson is 83.

You're Gonna Die Soon: http://youtu.be/UPiFhjCxXpk
4
He seems to be confusing gay people with the Borgias, or maybe the Bene Gesserit with their gom jabbar. Time for another dementia screening/mental health evaluation?
5
@3,

Evil never dies.
7
Sure he's old, but... I dunno, I'm going with syphilis.
8
@2
Apple fired Jobs.
MensWearhouse fired Zimmer.
VanHalen fired Roth.
10
There's few people whose death I will cheer. Pat Robertson's is one of them.
11
@8, and then installed Eddie's son Wolfgang as CEO. Or something...
12
He's either incredibly stupid or an intentional liar. The cable companies should drop him, but I'm sure there would be outraged cries of "censorship" if they did. The problem is that there are enough uninformed, credulous viewers who believe his lies so that they'll be perpetuated, filtering down through the murk of Christianist/right-wing/paranoid/conspiracy theorist ranks to poison the public discourse. He really should be prosecuted, but I don't know what grounds could be found for a suit.
13
WWJD?
14
I really wasn't expecting "Pat Robertson Is An Insane Old Bigot" to appear in the news as a headline.
15
It's kind of badass ninja super spy. The AIDS Death Ring. When these guys look at the gays, they see Jason Bourne. That fabulous apartment in "The Bourne Identity" gave it away.
16
There was a comedian- I don't recall who- who told this joke about Jesse Helms years ago. I remember it verbatim and it could certainly be applied here, just swap out the names...

"You know how newscasters always refer to people's "untimely death"? When's a good fucking time to die? Unless we talking about Jesse Helms. Then it would be like "Senator Jesse Helms died earlier today and it's about goddamn time."
17
@8 and Christians Jesus.
18
Really? Secret AIDS-transmitting decoder rings?

How does he even come up with this shit?
19
@16 - Robertson and Helms are definitely soulmates.
20
Oh I don't know, secret rings and deadly handshakes has such a de Medici sinister sense to it!
Much more dramatic that the actual reason so many people in SF are HIV positive: gay men like to have lots of bareback sex.
Oh, and do meth!
21
@8, Mens Wearhouse and Apple were both public companies. They are run by their shareholders. CBN is not. On purpose.

And Roth didn't run Van Halen. The Van Halens do.
22
Yup, he sure is. But everyone knows that already, apparently even his co-host (who is not much better).
23
"...now they say it may be sexual contact.”

May be? What year is Robertson telegraphing this from? Modes of transmission have been pretty much understood for quite some time Patrick.
24
@2, 8 et al: I don't want him dislodged from CBN, I want him fired from Christianity. Surely Christianity is publicly traded. How are these things done?
25
Dear Mr. Robertson,

Jesus just called. He said to tell you you're NOT one of his!

Sincerely yours,
Your Secretary

And now for my periodic reminder that Pat Robertson is not evil because he says crazy things: he is evil because he is complicit in mass murder and child soldiers in Liberia and nearby places, where he has extensive gold and diamond mining interests with his good buddy Charles Taylor, former president of Liberia and convicted war criminal, currently residing in a British prison on a 50-year sentence for, among other things, rape and murder. Robertson should be there with him.

Blood diamonds? That's Pat Robertson, using money raised by his "church". Here's what you get when you go in with Charles Taylor:
amputations with machetes -- some carried out by child soldiers forced to do so [...]

Witness TF1064 was forced to carry a bag containing human heads [...] On the way, the rebels ordered her to laugh as she carried the bags dripping with blood. Upon arrival, the bag was emptied, and she saw the heads of her children [...]

When ordered on a food-finding mission to rape an old woman they found at a farmhouse, the boy [age 12] cried and refused, for which he was punished
If there is a hell, Pat Robertson is going to roast in the hottest part of it next to people like Jim Jones. He's not just a hateful liar and a bigot like Jerry Falwell, he's complicit in mass murder.
27
I personally appreciate Pat Robertson just for the freak-show entertainment value he provides.
28
@12 There's like a zillion "Christian" channels. I only watch over-the-air tv, but there has to be close to 20 broadcast channels here in "God-less" New York devoted to evangelical nonsense. All the cable carriers have to do is replace CBN with one of their multitudinous competitors. Yeah, some of them are in Korean or Chinese or Spanish, but there are enough in English that they could find one less screwed up than grampa Pat's nutfarm channel.
29
@15: "Why won't Jesse Helms just hurry up and die, why won't Jesse Helms just hurry up and di-i-i-i-i-i-i-ie...."
30
@12: "either incredibly stupid or an intentional liar"

Either?

And "The cable companies should drop him" they wouldn't.

In the 80s, Jim & Tammy Bakker raised millions through PTL Ministries to finance a christian media empire. Their phenomenal fundraising resulted in the financing of their very own broadcasting satellite.

Every televangelist was scared to death that the PTL media empire and fundraising machine would destroy their little radio & tv fiefdoms.
Two televangelists hatched a plan. They saw the PTL threat as an opportunity to corner the media market for themselves.

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell orchestrated the media scandal that destroyed Jim Bakker. With the swift execution of a plan of deceit and extortion that any 80's corporate raider would admire, Pat and Jerry stole PTL's money and satellite and split the ownership and control between them.

Pat and Jerry used that satellite to fund their empires, to influence politics (both domestic and foreign), and to eliminate their competition. For a time their ambitions knew no bounds.

In the end, though, Jerry's debts from other ventures resulted in Pat's ownership of the satellite.

Pat used it to build his own cable channel (The Family Channel), but he lacked the skill and deeper pockets to fully realize his vision of a "conservative" media empire with a 24-hour news that promoted Pat's political worldview. Pat, you see, had spent his capital on other ventures like building a university to turn out lawyers, judges and politicians that would lead his revolution in the halls of government and the courtrooms of America and around the world. He even funded the ACLJ into existence as a adversary to the work of the ACLU on civil rights, human rights, voter rights and social justice. And, let's not forget the millions Pat spent on the political ambitions of his own and others.

Enter Rupert Murdoch. Rupert knew exactly how to accomplish what Pat could not. Money changed hands, and the satellite became the property of News Corp, which used it to launch Fox News.

As part of the deal, News Corp had to finance Pat's Family Channel and The 700 Club would always have the primetime slots in the morning and evening as the "news" programming for the channel. Pat also got his say in other programming for the channel and syndication rights.

Years later, Rupert no longer needed Pat or his club; so, News Corp sold The Family Channel to Disney. It was rebranded and relaunched as DisneyFamily.

As part of that deal The 700 Club has a perpetual broadcasting agreement...and that, kids, is why mean, old Pat is still peddling his version of crazy on tv.

@8 I get your point: Seemingly all-important figureheads do, sometimes, get removed - when the circumstances are right. FWIW: Jobs returned to Apple. Roth returned to VanHalen. Zimmer will soon be making me like the way I look (guaranteed).

You gotta concede @2's approach is more likely to succeed. Getting cable companies to discontinue hateful and dangerous misinformation ...

Here's how: You know Robertson is ooooold school... and, like Paula Dean, he probably is a bit casual with the old racist lingo. I'd suppose it wouldn't be hard to catch him off-air talking about how much/little income the CBN gets from the 'darkies' or whatever epithet he learned when he was just an adolescent hate-monger.

As for his death...
...who's taking bets on the inevitable 'big hypocrite' reveal 1 week later?
Will it be a gay lover? ... lovers?
A mutiracial love child?
Deeply shady business deals?
Or a detailed ledger of his brothel visits?

33
Does NotSean always reply & debate his own posts?

Or, is it NotSean's alternate personality?
34
@31: Interesting theory. Any blog/book that covers it in more detail?
35
I just called the switchboard, and their media department explains it this way:

The story is that Pat was at some event, many years ago (no details on that). At the event were "trained security officers" who warned him that there are gay activists who were deliberating trying to infect people with the ring cutting thing.

So Pat is not the source of the bullshit. He is just - repeating - some bullshit that SOMEONE said.

That someone would think that is worth sharing on the air to millions...beyond me.
36
@35--He may not be the source of the bullshit in the sense that he made it up with his own imagination. He is the one who made this claim on a popular cable network.
37

He's both.

Please wait...
