DFW thought fiction needed to be more accessible. Probably wouldn't have appreciated being thrown out there to validate the career of a guy who wrote numerous best-sellers.

As someone who once loved Tom Clancy's work... I will not miss him.
3
Red Storm Rising was the only Clancy book I read. It was decent.

He was part of the apotheosis of the military as our saviour.

Rest in peace, but good fucking riddance.

When I die, I want famous people's opinions of me to dominate the obituaries.

Noted internet commenter MacCrocodile died yesterday. Dan Savage saw him once in Seattle, but probably didn't recognize him. Emily Dickinson had been dead for a very long time before MacCrocodile was even born and thus had no opinion on him. President Obama once sent him a personalized email asking for campaign donations. "We will miss him," said someone nobody knows, possibly a loved one or family member.

@5 - Other Paul Constant obits we can expect to see:

"Horror novelist Stephen King died this morning. Thomas Pynchon once described Carrie as 'decent.'"

"Mystery writer Sue Grafton passed away last night. Maya Angelou 'saw the twist coming' in E is for Evidence."

"Best-selling author J.K. Rowling was struck by a car and killed over the weekend. Paul Constant 'never got around to reading those books.'"
7
"The noted employer of ghostwriters and gaping douchenozzle died at age 66."

Fixed that for you.
8
"John Grisham died unexpectedly last night. Gary Shteyngart once remarked to Dave Eggers that Grisham's bookjacket author photo made him look like a 'dumb dumb.'"
