Republicans are saying this is Obama's Katrina.

(What did they say Benghazi is? Was that also Obama's Katrina? And does calling it Obama's Katrina mean that they are unintentionally saying Bush screwed up on something?)
2
Oops. That should have been for the McDermott post.

Oh good. Another dude prescribing how we're supposed to package ourselves for male consumption. Awesome! One manic pixie dream girl who reads coming right up!

Great roundup of the news. The person who compiled it hopes there will be more Black in Seattle forums. I hope the person who provided this morning news will be a featured speaker at the next Black in Seattle forum.
5
Fore what it is worth, Conlin will be remembered for bringing goats to Seattle. Not much of a legacy, but probably more than any other incumbent council member will have.

This NYT story about a man who essentially died for lack of treatment of a broken leg illustrates the problems with the typhoon disaster response.

RE: the WOMEN who read video...

I'd be more impressed if Lindy West was used in that video.

Nothing to see here that isn't the norm of visual candy.
8
One Kindle in that video would have ruined it.

Just for the record, I kind of agree with y'all about the video. It's reductive. It was just the most interesting thing that came up after a short look-around around the Interwebs.

RE: Thumbs Down

Just FYI - generally speaking, green "power" is about electricity. This is about ethanol, an alternative fuel

@9

I agree that a video should be selected only after short look around. The news as well. Brief as possible. Little analysis, little thought, little care. Great application of this methodolgy, Ansel. We have to get out of our houses and live the Socialist life! We owe it to Kshawma!!

Ethanol is evil. HFCS is evil. Big Ag is evil.
14
@5, right on both counts.

"wheezebag"? well, no one ever said The Slog was gracious in victory. nor ever suffered from a global perspective on, for instance, Conlin versus the rest of the nation's city council folk. ah well, in six months The Slog will be attempting to steal Sawant's nose; (save it for Goldy. he'll have the shrine completed by then)

Warren/Sawant - 2016

Go for it dems!

@9: Thanks. I like you, and this video kinda bummed me out. You've shown such a clear grasp of the nuances of racism and classism in this post-modern reality that it was really disappointing to see something so totally the opposite posted from you. I'd expect it from some of the other men of Slog, but it's a drag to think that you share the same blind spot when it comes to women and fighting the patriarchy.

We all have our moments when we whiff it, so maybe something extra feminist with the news tomorrow as compensation?

Hasta la victoria siempre, Ansel.

@17

Joan Jett is in the news. I've always thought of her as a great example of Xtra Feminism. But yeah, let's wait til tomorrow, and see what the great clear graspers of post-mooderism, classyism, and racism come up with.

Girls who read, eh? I like a girl with a great rack and a full shelf.

Contrary to other comments, I thought the video was pretty progressive given that it appears to come from Australia. Perhaps I am behind the times, but my impression of Australian culture is that this video is quite out there at the cultural edges of feminism in that country. As such, I felt great pleasure at seeing it, and enjoyed the poem. Thank you Ansel.

Please wait...
