I imagine it helps that Borders and most of the other chains have gone out of business. People who want to buy books in person have either Barnes and Noble or a local bookstore.

The UW Bookstore is superior by comparison, ever since EB moved from downtown. It's almost as if they only stock titles reviewed on NPR.
