Or maybe (gasp) the Stranger is wrong about the SPD changes and Durkan's comments are authentic? No way, let's not even mention that possibility in the post.

@2 or maybe this is all about power plays and politics and was all along. Jenny Durkan got the mayor she wanted and now she's going to defend him and his interim chief even though some known reformers have been pushed out of SPD. This idea that Jenny Durkan is some unbiased arbiter of what is and is not reform was always ridiculous.

something kind of spooky when the feds throw in the oar on local police staffing decisions. All of these decisions are completely political and have nothing to do with nuts-n-bolts police work, what role does the DOJ have over day to day actions?
Imagine if the Mayor issued a press release stating he fully supported the replacement of an FBI station chief in Seattle, or the promotion of of a Homeland security Sargent. WTF?
