I don't think she was the one laughing.
2
For which side are we cheering? Neither? Both?
3
Blow-me-oh and his dumb shit sidekick Zimmerman truly are assholes. Tell it, Bruce.
4
Sawant is Bellomio in a sari.

The comment is a around 7:38.

I agree with Harrell - Bellomio and Zimmerman are narcissists and potentially crazy enough to be dangerous. I don't celebrate their bullshit as "diversity".

Also, I don't think Sawant laughed. I don't think she can laugh. I'm a Sawant supporter, I am, but she has no sense of humor - none. I don't think she would laugh at that comment, or anything - not a Marx Brothers film or a George Carlin monologue. She's about as funny as a blind toad on a minefield.
7
@6 Why would she laugh? She agrees with everything Bellomio says.
9
I'm sure similar things were said about the Occupy protesters.

I've seen these guys at political groups and they just rant and rave. They hoped to be what Sawant is. The reason she succeeded is that she actually has a message rather than talking to be heard and then seen in the politico press. Memo to a-holes; self righteousness without a message is nothing.

@9. They are not Occupy people. Occupy had a damn point. They had policies they were trying to accomplish. These guys have no point, but that they want more time to talk about nothing.

Good on Harrell. About damn time a politician grows a backbone and tells it how it is. About. Damn. Time.

Do the city council rules not include precluding personal attacks, especially bigoted slurs? If not, why not?

Zimmerman and Bellomio kept praising Sawant for her low salary and saying it was time for the other council members to do the same. They must not have comprehended that her salary is still $130k or so, but she's putting most of it into her action fund and her take home is the 40k. You have to take a very long, indirect, circuitous route to suggest that the difference is not money that's still leaving the city tax revenue coffers.
15
Yay, Bruce!

@11, they most certainly are Occupy people. Bellomio and his famous 40-page list of grievances was prominent in Seattle Occupy camps. He may not be "official", but nobody's official in Occupy, right?

It would be funny if something bad happened to him.

I'm reminded of some rowdy testimony that we used to see at school board meetings. At that time, the Seattle Times said that the tone at the meetings was evidence that the school board was "dysfunctional". Are they saying the same about the City Council today?

Please wait...
