i think we realize the constraints come from on-high, but at least a mention of Goldy's departure and past excellent contributions to the Slog would be welcome here. ("we plan to cover it with a more thorough overview posting" boshflimshaw... just a mention in the "Morning News" is worthy) it's all rather sad/corporatist behavior guys. at least Mr Holden had the honor to mention it to Joel.

@1 Wha? When did that happen?

Also, we get it, the Stranger has a Shutterstock subscription now. Why, I don't know. I can't be the only one already sick of the random terrible stock crap.

This is where the new jobs are!

I propose a comment strike until a nice send-off for Goldy appears on Slog: "Best of luck to Goldy" or somesuch. Let's see a bunch of zero comments for a while, which I've noticed on several current postings anyhow.

@4David from Home of Da Bears!
Mind getting me up to speed? Goldie is leaving the Stranger?
6
Wait, what? I love Goldy. He's the reason I check Slog so often. Why is he leaving and where is he going? When will Slog give us this news?
7
@5 Goldy posted about it yesterday on his old Blog: http://horsesass.org/?p=53102

Discussion about it starting around the 50th comment here:

All these crappy shutterstock images you guys are using (forced to use?) add nothing to the posts, and honestly make them look cheap, lame, and generic.

Give your readers the benefit of the doubt that we can follow along without kitty pictures.
9
I'm disconsolate. Thanks Goldy.
10
Is it a coincidence that Goldy brought a left wing critique of Seattle's liberal establishment and that today's main challenge to the Seattle liberal establishment is from the left?
11
Ahh, shit. Sorry that Goldy has moved on. He always brought the perfect mix of fact, humor, and opinion to his posts. The Seattle Times should hire him--who wouldn't love to sit in on that interview!--but sadly their current crop of sociopathic, compulsive liars will continue be the cross that our city must bear.

Best wishes on your next endeavor, Goldy. Keep givin' 'em hell!

I think the Stranger should put something out why The Stranger and Goldy parted ways. Goldy was a big reason why many viewers read the Stranger Log.

I realize Goldy was more of an Agit-Prop journalist, but overall he was a journalist, who obviously did a bunch of research before he started to pound the keyboard. I didn't always agree with him, but I did enjoy his articles.

The Stranger shouldn't sweep this under the rug. It should at least give a statement.
14
Christopher put a comment in last night's thread just now to the effect that Goldy's leaving had nothing to do with the minimum wage coverage and that he's been invited to freelance for the Stranger.
15
@13
Statement, shmatement. let it rest. follow Goldie as a political candidate, follow Goldie on Horses.ass. Spare me the calculated bullshit you get in a 'statement.'
16
@15 It'd be good for the Stranger to indicate they understand that Goldy filled a need for a left wing approach to issues and that his departure won't affect this kind of coverage.
17
There will be no statement. Legally and ethically, all The Stranger and Index Newspapers probably could do is say "Goldie has left The Stranger to peruse other opportunities. We wish him the best in his new endeavors."

Take care, Goldie.
18
@16: That's like being worried if Sean Hannity left Fox News.
19
@18
pretty much yeah.

i say leave politics out of it. Goldie is just a dude who is leaving his job.
No different from some teenager, who despite getting a new $15/hr wage, leaves for a lesser paying job because she can't take the the disgusting smell of McDonalds anymore.
20
@18 - that's because you've the subtlety of a right wing moron who doesn't understand the difference between liberal and left wing.
21
@19 how much longer are you going to force on us your inane drivel?
22
@21

probably until the day Slog goes Poof! like Goldie's exit! like the caped crusader vanishing down a dark alleyway, only to go cuddle with Paul Constant and discuss the existential topsy-turvy of Stan Lee illustrating The Satanic Bible.

"Christopher put a comment in last night's thread just now to the effect that Goldy's leaving had nothing to do with the minimum wage coverage and that he's been invited to freelance for the Stranger. "

Yeah, remember when they fired the music editor they used that same "invited to freelance" comment.

Basically: He's welcome to contribute for pennies, but we're no longer paying him less than $15/hour to do so.

25
@20: Yes, I'll admit to not been totally fluent with the spectrum that ranges from liberal to left-wing; conversely, you are not totally fluent with the spectrum that ranges from conservative to right-wing.
26
@25 Oh please, it's not a matter of total fluency but one of basic literacy. How could we not tell the difference between a right wing zealot and a neoliberal technocrat given that we are constantly subjected to the spectrum of right wing ideas in corporate and public mass media and thanks to an overwhelmingly, at best, right of center political establishment.
27
@26: Very telling what you wrote "...we are constantly being subjected to a spectrum of right wing ideas..." -- so, given the fact that they are not your point of view (no matter what the ideas happen to be) you feel that you must not be subject to them. You are not subjected to them if you stay clear of Fox News and other media that ruffles you delicate sensibilities.
It's sad when people are not at least intrigued by other points of view and only feel "subjected" to them as if their own ideas cannot stand the test of dissent or reevaluation. This is provincial thinking and is not what a democracy all about as the "marketplace of ideas" creates a pluralistic society.

Please wait...
