I don't know what to think about the Annie remake. The jokes all seem too cheesily contemporary-yet-instantly-outdated, but I thought the same thing about a trailer for Frozen and I ended up loving that. Quvenzhane Wallis looks great as the character, though.
I'm eager for the Annie movie as well. From this trailer it seems that Cameron Diaz is either going to have an painfully bad performance (perhaps more likely) or a deliciously campy one (this is my benefit-of-the-doubt stretch interpolation).
and is that "stacks" instead of "warbucks" that I see? kinda funny
It's curious how even when right-wingers talk about denouncing the bigots in their midst, it's always because they'll "make the movement look bad", not because their beliefs are completely immoral and deleterious to a civil society.
Starring Jamie Foxx as Will Smith...in every role he's every played!
Also, Cameron Diaz as Glenn Close as Cruella DeVille!
And a clever kid who is not named Jayden...but might as well be since this movie is also every movie ever done by Will Smith!
See the slow pan scenes of the spectacular fleet of G-5s and the kid says wide-eyed...I get all this!
Wait with anticipation, as somehow, in some kind of crazy confusion, a bunch of bad guys screw up Will Smith (I mean, Jamie Foxx's) empire (which is based on renewable energy and non-GMO foods, no doubt) by the 0:50 mark, only to be rectified by the 1:20 mark!
I get the comic book geeks freaking out about the change in character... they're geeks, freaking out about minutia is what they do... but I'm optimistic. Battlestar Galactica completely re-booted many of its main characters and it ended up creating a rich, new environment. The geeks hated those changes at first too.
I'm shocked that people think this Annie trailer looks good. I'm a musical theatre geek, and I was really looking forward to a new take on Annie, and especially thrilled to have a non-white girl playing the lead. But between the schticky references (Facebook! We're hip!), the (UGH) auto-tune, and whatever the hell Cameron Diaz is doing (and I actually adore her...but this looks like a bad high school improv class), this seems horrifying.
It's even more disappointing because Annie is actually a wonderful, heartfelt, fun story with a great score. And it's a story that could be updated easily without all of the hit-you-over-the-head jokes and references and with some great new musical arrangements. Also...they couldn't find a young black girl who could REALLY sing "Tomorrow"? Quvenzhane Wallis is a phenomenal actress, but Annie is an iconic singing role...it should be played by a great actress who can sing her face off. There's no question that they're out there.

Quvenzhane Wallis was fucking awesome in Beasts of the Southern Wild. So I'm predisposed to like Annie, unless they completely screw it up.
