Yeah, found that a bit odd that no songs of Jimi will be in the biopic. The Estate (?) of Hendrix seems to have ironclad control of Jimi's songs, images etc. Seems the Estate wants to milk as much as they can from the brand/cult of Jimi Hendrix.
Meh, doesn't interest me anyway. By & large, I'm not a fan of biopics.
Royale Watkins did a great job as Jimi in Howard Kaylan's "My Dinner With Jimi", an interesting low-budget look at the Turtles's first trip to the UK. Royale was a standout -- looked like him, talked like him, moved his hands like him. No Hendrix music, though.
Biopics without the real music are tragic and belong only on VH1: Behind the Music. Biopics WITH the music are rarely much better.
How about...Jimi Hendrix is a wiseguy know it all.. He lives in a spectacular high tech mansion, and solves crimes. Whenever someone starts talking about cars, fine wine, or...spaceships...Jimi replies with a correction like the model 35-9x is based on a design that won't let you make a left turn...you dig? He uses these put downs mostly on women and white folk.
