Ghosts? Damn! I've heard of "Uncle Toms" but to say they're in the Klan is pretty harsh.
3
I have no doubt that your heart was in the right place, but yeah, "ghosts" was probably not the best analogy in this case.
4
@2 And I'm sure you'd feel the same way if a bunch of minority kids from Garfield bombed your kids with hate.
5
@4 I am pretty sure regular hate is encouraged, especially in team sports.
6
Goldy could have gotten a response. Too bad you numbskulls fired him.
7
@ 2 Has a point, it was HS kids being stupid punish them and move on.
8
You should try the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. They are much more active and effective than the NAACP here. Aside from the NAACP president appearing at press conferences, there's not much to the organization.
9
Tell them you have a large donation to give them and they'll get back to you in 5 minutes tops.
@6 Goldy got fired? Tell more.
10
RE: Complaining about the use of "ghosts" in this post.

What, did you want him to say "spooks?"
11
Goldy got fired???
12
@9, 11- I can't prove that, but it certainly appears so from a distance. He's gone - no farewell article allowed, no mention of it at all I can find in The Stranger. He had this to say at horsesass.org;

"I am sorry to say that as of the moment I am no longer an employee at The Stranger. It’s a longish story that I don’t really feel like getting into (and it would probably seem stupid to outsiders), but let’s just sum it up as “editorial differences" ".

Sounds to me like he was pretty much forced out.
13
@12 it probably didn't help that he was a hypocrite, and a over opinionated east coast liberal jackass who pissed off most of the people he interacted with. Despite that being the reason he was probably hired in the first place.

He probably got fired for posting too many inflammatory click bait posts, that watered down the ad revenue and made it easier to see slog like the irrelevant shit show that it is.

Rather than the delicious hip no sellout *snicker* advertising demographic its sold as.
14
Second the Urban League suggestion.
15
@1/3: The Klan outfit has fuckall to do with ghosts.

16
@13- ladies and gentlemen, presenting David Brooks' id.
17
Huh, Goldy was 86ed? Was his relentless shilling for the Seattle taxi industry finally too much for even Dan?
18
Um, how do clickbait posts water down ad revenue? I know jack about online ad revenue, but I sort of assumed that the purpose of clickbait was to increase it.
19
No more stock photos PLEASE!

Danielle, I 3rd the suggestion for the Urban League. I had never heard of them before when I first moved to Seattle many years ago. But I have since learned that they are far more active and effective the NAACP in the Seattle area. It seems to be a local thing that I don't really understand.
21
Didn't it occur to you to find out who the President of the NAACP is? Anyone could have told you: James Bible. He has a law practice. Ye gods, you are supposed to be a reporter.
22
Oh look! The ghost brought flip phones back from the dead.
23
Also, BRING BACK GOLDY!
24
The article has an unsettling racial condensation. This is "exactly the kind of situation" the NAACP would want to talk to a reporter about? Really?
25
@24 condensation? It's raining racists!
26
Ben Jealous did a better job at NAACP head than his replacement has so far. But they're basically a fed policy lobby at this point, not regularly spending their dwindling funds on local problems any more.

27
Also a little disappointed that SLOG commenters have gone so drifty and even bad-jokey on this thread. If the slurs had been directed at groups with some traction around this region (women, Jews) the response would be more focused for sure.

Please wait...
