Or...

When emotionally distraught people ask you to help "unjam" their gun in the Home Depot's parking lot, agree to help, take the gun, engage the safety, remove the bullets and refuse to return the gun.

Calling the police in this day and age before removing the gun (knife, stick, wallet, toy...almost any object in their hands) from the suicidal person will probably result in the police killing the suicidal person, especially if you are a male (except in upper class neighborhoods and during the day in business districts) or any person of color (anywhere, anytime).

Very good point!

Why is Seattle the suicide capital of America? I bet it has to do with all the unfriendly liberals running around looking down at everyone "not cool enough" to be trust fund socialist hipsters. With the 15Now fascists running around and all the rest of this crap, I have half a mind to check out too.

@3: Ha! Seattle isn't even in the top 15. You need to readjust your little theory to explain Las Vegas. It must be the liberals. Right.

@3: fascists?

you really need to leave town if that's what you think. you'd be happier somewhere else, like Cincinnati.

@4: Shhh, facts.

@4
Vegas is filled with liberals. And notice no Texas city is in the top 15. What does that tell you?

@7: If you look at the overall data there is no correlation between the politics and suicide rate of cities. What does THAT tell you?
9
Cities just generally attract more people, and that includes suicidal people.

Oh, and @7, I know universities themselves don't count, not sure if this is still the case--but I heard about a decade ago that Rice University has the highest suicide rate of any university in the United States.
