In the Double Nickel's camp. Could be that is was easy(ish) to find (oh why did I buy that on cassette instead of vinyl!?), and for the broke teen it was kinda just a great value, which is a weird thing to say about a record.

My life
Jesus and tequila
I'm satisfied
I can't deny it

I have both The Punch Line and Double Nickels, and the latter is better (and longer) - they were pros by then.

You remind me to listen to them again, it's been too long. And my vote is firmly for Double Nickels, which is just one of the most perfect albums ever.
5
Easily The Punch Line! Not a wasted nanosecond on that one.
6
I'd go with What Makes a Man Start Fires?

Also, if you watch We Jam Econo, you'll learn that it's really just "Minutemen", with no "The".

Many of the best bands are never copied, because its simply impossible.
There are no cover bands of Miles Davis' On the Corner, for example.
No Beefheart impersonators.

@7:
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

First off, Minutemen got a lot of their sound from that first Gang of Four album.

Mark Isham did an entire album covering Miles fusion period, including tracks from "On the Corner."

Tom Waits & Les Claypool are just but the first to come to my mind when thinking of Beefheart impersonators. I am sure that there are more.
