Johnson used to force his aides to take dictation while he was taking a dump. They had to come right there in the room with him. He also used to like to take a piss while standing in the parking lot of the Senate Office Building, and made a special effort to do so in front of his secretaries. He used personal space, or the lack thereof, as a weapon and a powerful political tool.

Greatest president of my lifetime, though -- as well as one of the worst (the other side of that Civil Rights coin says "Vietnam" on it.)

In other (actual) news:
"Kathleen Sebelius, the health and human services secretary, is resigning, ending a stormy five-year tenure marred by the disastrous rollout of President Obama’s signature legislative achievement, the Affordable Care Act." -The New York Times

Johnson's record almost makes up for his conspiring with the CIA and Cuba to assassinate JFK.

@3, I hear he faked the moon landing in his unfinished basement too.

Saw it live (on Fox) and glad you posted this. It's a good watch. Obama tells a bunch of LBJ stories.

@6, are you fucking kidding me? There's that little thing everyone calls Obamacare. Maybe you've heard of it. That, if nothing else, will be his legacy. The ACA is on the same level as social security or Medicare. It will undoubtedly change over the years (just like social security did), but it's beginning will always be attributed to Obama.

@5 - at least it will have your sense of humor to keep it company.

@8 - I'm with you. In today's gerrymandered political environment, the ACA is a stunning achievement. He also deserves plenty of credit for winding down the Iraq debacle and for overseeing the end of the hunt for Bin Laden, the prize W. took his eye off of. And let's not forget the significance of being the first black president: as a pioneer, he's enduring the obstructionism and unjustified hatred of the Republicans - no small feat in and of itself.

@8 Obamacare will prevail and improve as the years go by. The American Govt. could have insured everyone in the U.S. for 3 (three) years with what the republicans have spent trying to eliminate it. Does that make you want to vote for one of these dunderheads in 2014 and 2016? Sheesh! They pander to the uneducated, poor folks down south and claim they have the elections wrapped up......... Good Luck Charlie!

The big issues I have with the President are when he took office, he brought in people to his economic team such as Geithner and Summers who were more interested in persuing policies to make the criminal banks whole rather than the American People through populist economic measures--had to please the donors I guess. He also pushed for Social Security cuts when the system in reality will be solvent for another 20 or so years; Instead, Obama could have pursued eliminating the payroll cap tax so that the wealthy pay the same share of their income into the SS fund as everybody else. He is a lesser of the republican evil, but this isn't change that I counted on.

LBJ's true legacy is that he flipped the nature of both parties. Pushing for the Civil Rights Act forced the segregationists and bigots (last of the Dixiecrats) out of the Democratic party and into the waiting arms of the GOP, which saw its progressive members move towards LBJ's program. The Republican party used to be the home of progressive leaders like TR and Bob La Follette, as well as those friendly to business, like McKinley. The transition started with FDR and the New Deal, but the major turning point was LBJ. Nixon's "Southern Strategy" and Reagan's fake religiosity were the final acts.
The makeup of today's Democratic & Republican parties bear little resemblance to their 1950's predecessors, but don't try telling that to the Fox News crowd. The "party of Lincoln" disappeared 50 years ago.

Please wait...
