Looks like that storm is ready to blow a load of moisture.

Who knew that experimental drugs which the State would not even disclose where they got them from would lead to such a horrible spectacle? This is the second botched execution using bullshit drugs (the first had an inmate saying that he felt like his body was burning). It is time for the abolition of the death penalty. This type of barbarity simply cannot continue. The doctor who supervised this and the people involved in procuring and designing this novel method of execution need to be jailed.

How long till Rick Scott calls the Feds for $$. 3, 2, 1 . . . cue 'love me some big gub-mint'.

"Because letting women know that Republicans want to control their sexuality makes it harder to win women’s votes, I suppose."

Nice.

It's hard for me to have much sympathy for a murderer, but yeah, we ought to be able to do a better job of it than that.

I have had pet rats for years, and they often require euthanasia due to high cancer rates, and I do so at home with a carbon dioxide chamber I have constructed.

This is a more humane method than how we currently execute prisoners. It is time to do away with this primitive and barbaric practice. As long as there is a death penalty, we are a society of murderers.

On another note, it must be weird to be part of a political party where you have to hide your basic stances on issues because they are too extreme and disgusting for the American public to digest.

@8: Isn't CO2 what triggers the asphyxiation panic and pain? From what I understand nitrogen or helium are the preferred asphyxiation gasses.

Remember how everyone and his brother (and SLOG) were telling us how the GM bailout was such a good deal for the taxpayers (and anyone who said otherwise should be disappeared)?

Well,

The U.S. Government Actually Lost $11.2 Billion On GM Bailout

@10 no, I don't.

regardless of your BS, the link you posted states it was still a good deal and I agree. You should still be "disappeared" tho.

@9:
Well, the method is that you raise the concentration of the gas to about 20% (going from memory here so bear with me) which relaxes the muscles and puts them into what is basically an unfeeling coma. Then you raise the concentration to the lethal level while they are knocked out, thus avoiding the panic and pain.

If used on humans one should probably use the gasses you mention or even carbon monoxide though. But for ease and cost, it is hard to beat vinegar and baking soda when dealing with small mammals. Just have to make sure to use the two step method.

I don't get why, if we're going to kill people, we don't just shoot them in the head. If the majority of the population is ok with state sponsored murder, there must be someone that would be willing to pull the trigger. I sure wouldn't, but I don't favor the death penalty.

Or at least go back to hanging. The reason we got away from it was that if you made the ropes long enough to ensure instant death, you'd have the occasional decapitation, and that made people uncomfortable. We SHOULD be uncomfortable with killing people, but if we're going to do it, do it a way that's tried, tested, and reliable.

Re: executions....why are trying to make this so complex? A .45 to the back of the head is cheap, quick, and painless....done deal.

16
What do you mean "botched"?
Fucker's dead. Right?

First world nations won't sell their drugs to a third world country executing prisoners - especially one where convictions have been overruled so regularly. States are illegally buying or illegally using drugs, and this is the result. How is this Constitutional?

@15, someone on Slog should have posted the Daily Show recap of the NRA conference. A bunch of soft politicians talking tough about shooting Obamacare. The embarrassing jingoism of the pretend cowboys and cowgirls. Post Citizens United there is a whole industry dedicated to sucking off the black money teat. No chance of election, but that isn't the point. The point is to shake down the Kochs and Silversteins for money to live off. Too lazy to even appear on TV talk shows.

Yeah and the hundreds of millions (billions?) we were pumping into "NGOs" in Ukraine the past few years was purely for non political benevolent humanitarian assistance with no agenda attached.... Riiiiiight....

Seriously you guys need to grow up come across as at least a bit less naive if you hope to at least keep the appearance of minimal journalistic skepticism and credibility addressing international news.

Please wait...
