Suffice to say someone on the Stranger staff got a free drink or meal there at some point. Bethany's reviews are great. But there are a lot of Slog posts that seem based in a quid pro quo agreement.

@1 yes. i been there.. i may have written that review, but it would have been a long long time ago.i'll be the first to say that, as far as i know, NO stranger writer has received any free anything from a restaurant based on writing a favorable review. i never did. i'm certain that bethany hasn't. sun ya has served dependable decent dim sum for decades.they have a somewhat ratty cocktail lounge but, like most in the area, they can't make a decent mixed drink and the tv is a bit loud. i hope they clean up their act. i'll wager they'll reopen by the weekend.

That's my preferred dim sum joint. Every bit as good as jade garden without the hour + wait. Plus, extra bonus, FREE PARKING IN CHINATOWN.

Ew. I liked some of their dim sum dishes, they were a safe (as in taste) bet and cheap. I'm really not surprised, the place is pretty dirty right when you walk in the door and a stale musty smell.

I won't miss it. Seattle really isn't the place for Dim Sum anyway.

Anyone who ever ate there is dead, including your former food review intern (don't bother with a condolences card at this point).

It's culturally insensitive to hold them to American standards for things like not mixing poop and food.

Food communicable HepA might be worse....

Used to live across the street. The dim sum's not bad.

The bar is a real gem for people who don't need their drinking establishments to have themes or unicorn hats you can wear.

The parking lot's a great place to take a transient poop.

I haven't been there in at least a decade, but as a child in Seattle in the 80s Sun Ya was my family's default Dim Sum destination. Sorry to hear of this.

My family and I have been eating their for the past 40 years, and have never had a bad experience. I hope they can reopen.
