Braden's selection as AAD is welcomed, if not exactly surprising. I can think of no other administrator locally better-suited to both honor Jerry's legacy and to continue the Rep's renewed commitment to growing and nurturing Seattle's remarkably broad and deep theatrical talent pool.

I don't get why there is no national search. I am not saying he is not deserving, I just think it is nice to know what exists outside our borders.

"Acting Artistic Director" is a temporary, place-holder position and doesn't preclude a national search for a permanent replacement. The same thing occurred at The Rep when David Esbjornon stepped down in 2008; Jerry was named Interim AD and then full AD in 2009 after the board undertook a national search.
