401 ppm milestone will get an equally breathless headline?

Energy in Transition: The Sahara Wind Power Project

Variable load wind-electrolysis for grid stabilization will be tested in a setting where by-products can be integrated on-site with relevant applications. Co-generated hydrogen will be used as a spinning reserve, emergency backup power, and even in clean-mobility applications. A research training program on fuel-cell powered vehicles will be conducted by Morocco’s largest engineering school in partnership with local automotive industries. As a result, access to renewable energies can be addressed through broader synergetic contexts focused on drinking water and multiple uses of renewable hydrogen. The operational feedback gained will facilitate the expansion of integrated solutions in support of Morocco and Mauritania’s utilities.

We're fucked. Don't have kids.
6
they never tell us what to do -- simply and effectively.

if we have a carbon tax, what would it be per mile of my 20 mpg car? what would it do to the price of my plane ticket to mexico for that yoga retreat?

i don't have kids does that mean I can still fly to mexico? for vacation?

does climate concern mean we just ban all power mowers and outboard motor boats for sport?

environmentalists have failed to create a simple to do list, so while many accept climate change it feels there nothing we can do about it. the$15 min wage, I can sign a petition. I can be for $15 an hour. how do I act to be for stopping bad climate changes?????? it's unclear.

Conservative response:

"This is a hoax! There's no climate change!"

Later...

"Ok, maybe there's climate change but it's just a part of the natural cycle..."

Later...

"Ok, maybe it's not so natural, but humans have nothing to do with it!"

Later...

"Ok, so maybe humans are causing it but what are we supposed to do about it, no one tells us what to do?!?"

Later...

"Ok, so you've told us repeatedly what to do, but no other countries will do it so why should we?!?"

Later...

"Ok, so maybe we could set an example, but it's probably too late anyway."

@5 You could euthanize to solve the problem sooner?

@7

Okay Chicken Little-

Know why rational people discount the sky is falling theory? Maybe because the same 'scientists,' when I was a kid, were telling us about the coming global ice age? Maybe because Saint Gore isn't the most reliable guy on anything else, so why should I believe the moron on this?

Or maybe because when you tell someone repeatedly something awful will happen and it doesn't you lose a tiny bit of credibility.

Climate 'scientists' are little better than gypsy fortune tellers. They're examining an enormously complicated system with inadequate tools, which is fine since those are the tools they have. It's only when they want me to treat their guesswork as fact that I complain.
10
@9: Just because you are uneducated and do not understand climate science or the basics of the scientific method/predictive models does not mean everyone else is in the same leaky boat.
11
Yup! I ain't never done been dedicated, cuz Teddy Go Wrath done said so.

Shucks, if Teddy says it's so, it jus done gotta be!

You know, Go Wrath, the tired liberal line "they don't agree with me so they're stupid (or bigoted or hate filled or whatever other made up bullshit) only actually convinces other far left whack jobs. You know, the ones already convinced.
12
@11 so are you a liberal now? Because is literally the same line of thinking in your arguments. Every point you object to is simply anti-liberal. Hardly a convincing case of critical thought.
13
@12 ugh, 'because this is'
15
@11: First off, this whole "Go Wrath" thing is just a really bad joke/insult. I am quite levelheaded here, and honestly, I am trying to find the insult, but can not. I really expect a better class of insult.

Second, I do not think you are stupid because you are uneducated or because you disagree with me. I know several people who are pretty uneducated, but are not stupid. I know many people who disagree with me, and they are not all stupid either. I am calling you stupid because of the things you express here, and it is clear you are uneducated because of the seething hatred you have for people who are.

Third, you may as well be describing yourself in that third paragraph, you know. Your inability to see this is part of why it is obvious you are a moron.
16
@9 - " It's only when they want me to treat their guesswork as fact that I complain."

Deniers like you simply have not the necessary tools to assess climate science. Yet, we can be certain to see you claim that you know better than 97% of climate scientists. Who do you think you are fooling, blowhard?
17
@9 First, Al Gore is not the only person saying climate change is happening due to human activities; nearly every scientist today is saying that. Second, you said "when you tell someone repeatedly something awful will happen and it doesn't you lose a tiny bit of credibility." Are you saying that Hurricane Katrina, Typhoon Haiyan, Hurricane Sandy, and the current drought that's been affecting Texas (and other nearby states) for 4 years are not awful events?
18
@9 "when you tell someone repeatedly something awful will happen and it doesn't you lose a tiny bit of credibility."

Just because you are willfully ignorant doesn't mean something awful isn't already happening.
19
@9 You stupid fuck, which "scientists" were talking about a global ice age? Can you name a few peer reviewed papers that went unanswered?

Fuck you and take a fucking science class, asshole.
20
i would gladly take the word of climate scientists if they were proponents of legalizing hemp/cannabis as a means to combat human made climate change and CO2 "pollution"
21
@19 FTW.

SeattleBlowsMe is conflating the current scientific consensus with a few 1970s popular press stories asking "Are we heading for a new ice age?" from the same credulous idiots who wrote about space aliens building the pyramids. Possibly leavened with memories of the "nuclear winter" scenario, which IN NO WAY is in conflict with the current climate understanding.

Climate prediction is driven by computer models. Hey, SeattleBlowsMe, remember all those AWESOME computers we had in the 1970s? Oh wait, no, you don't.

Remember how half that long ago, an early '90s Mac took half an hour to render a Photoshop transformation that now takes half a second? Mainframe computers have accelerated, too. Scientists in the 70s couldn't have produced results in conflict with our results today, because the technology to do so DIDN'T EXIST.
22
@21

Oh. Well if COMPUTER MODELS say something that's like the word of God almighty!

I'm humbly sorry I ever questioned computer models. Please don't burn me at the stake for heresy. Please?

Hey Scrawny? A tool is as good as the operator. The information a computer spits out? No better than the information put in initially. Know what else? An hypothesis, tested by computer model or not, is just a biased guess. If you want to find evidence of THE COMING GLOBAL CATASTROPHE THAT WILL END LIFE AS WE KNOW IT!!!!!!!! that's what you're gonna find, kiddo.
23
@19

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth, junior?
24
@17

So- discreet weather events ARE signs of GLOBAL WARMING IN WHICH WE'LL ALL BE DEAD BY CHRISTMAS if they support your chicken little fantasies. If they don't they're just weather. Neat!
25
@24 don't you get it? bad weather is caused by people... it's so believable only kooks like you would question that fact. psssh you and your rational questioning behavior, hurry up and fall in line already.
26
@22 And your counter-prediction is based on what?
28
Is there some way to tweet-shame the energy industry into switching over to renewables? Cause if not, I'm out of ideas.
29
@9: Um, scientists were NOT predicting ice ages back in the days. There's also actually a pretty good understanding of the planet's climate systems. YOU, meanwhile, refuse to admit that the Earth is getting warmer, which is something we can directly measure without any need for arcane modeling.
@11: So where is your degree from? What did you study? I have a degree in THIS FIELD from one of the finest universities in the world; unless I am greatly mistaken, you do not. So why do you insist that you know better than I do on this topic, let alone better than the thousands of other scientists whose education is such that I am an amateur in comparison to them
@23: Answer the question, schmuckhead.
30
Wow. If the only weapon someone brings to an argument on climate change is to mock Al Gore, then maybe they should just keep living under that rock. It may be the only shelter they have against the changing weather.
31
"An hypothesis, tested by computer model or not, is just a biased guess."

@22: You say some stupid, stupid shit on a regular basis, but that has to be the single dumbest sentence you have uttered in... well, at least a month.
32
Ah to quote my savior to all science-denial arguments...Neil Degrasse Tyson...

“The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it. Alright? I guess you can decide whether or not to believe in it, but that doesn’t change the reality of an emergent scientific truth.”

Soooo SHHHHHHH. Stop spreading your idiocy while using the internet on a phone or computer. You do realize that the internet itself uses predictive modeling? All those NRA adds that pop up on your screen? Predictive modeling.

Oh and all of the tech you're using? Ahhhhh science. Stop complaining about science with a mobile device. Be skeptical, and be critical, but follow the scientific method.
33
So does everybody remember when we were told "we must act now time is running out" in the late 1990s or the late 1970s? Crisis sells (for the press, for activists, for scientists' funding).
34
Climate change will affect us all, eventually. Arguing about it on this forum is pointless unless we can agree that something has to change or eventually the poles will melt and we will be underwater. Maybe it won't happen in this century and it's probably too late to reverse the heating cycle of the earth, but the republicans need to acknowledge that it will happen and it is the fault of humans.

Please wait...
