Thank you for that memory, Charles. I saw Angelou lecture once. It didn't change my career direction, but she did make a big impression on me. So much personality, barely contained, all but bursting out, of one person.
Beautiful story Charles. You shouldn't let the trolls on here learn that you studied economics though. They might feel like your understanding of economics is more informed and even *gasp* more nuanced then their 1 semester taking econ101, talkradio informed perspective.
Since I'm unburdened by the superstition against speaking ill of the dead, I'll mention here that one of my high school English teachers told us that he had been her appointed escort for one of her visiting speaker engagements, and he found her insufferable, particularly the way she chastised small children who had the audacity to address her as "Maya" rather than "Dr. Angelou".
That's quite poignant. I sure am glad you became a writer. Otherwise, I wouldn't be in correspondence with you. How fortuitous.
BTW, I have read some of Maya Angelou's poetry. It's very good.
You may write.
But you are not a writer.
Have you read any of Chuck's pap????
Really, though, you should have been a doctor.
