but there is a lot of attention being paid by the Stranger to the current double homicide there. have you noticed? the motivation of the shootings there will differ from SPU, they are known criminals. it could be an anti-gay hate crime, but it was more likely territorial.

Yes. At least until the shootings are sanitized into statistics.
The Stranger staff tends to ignore shootings involving brown people.
But they do quote the statistics of how many people are shot.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with pepper spray or a taser. Particularly with some martial arts or self defense training.
The SPU guy had the cops refer him to mental health services twice. It would be great to have a workable system to get people mental health assistance, but I can't think of a way to accomplish that which isn't horribly vulnerable to abuse.
to me, 2 (ignored) mental health referrals is enough for a temporary surrender of firearms. of course the cops would have to know if you even had any to surrender. there's probably a law preventing them from even asking.
