really? because it looks like he just spread that idea on the national stage again with his "the science isn't settled" BS.

and the GOP can't back down from it, because they can't afford to alienate their base.

Pretty sure that young gay people could give two shits about what some random politician thinks. And FYI, lots of straight supporters of gay rights find man-on-men sex in the pooper icky. That alone doesn't make you a bigot.

What's really needed is to cure people of their religious afflictions.

@2 "Pretty sure that young gay people could give two shits about what some random politician thinks."

The kids in Texas will give two shits if their parents trot them off to conversion therapy. Remember that this is so dangerous in its assumptions that it has been banned for minors in both California and New Jersey. Meanwhile, the Texas Republican Party is leading the charge back into the 1950's.

"The science is not settled" is the GOP's catch all term for ignoring hard truth and solid data. Science is never "settled," continual inquiry is the POINT of science. I hate seeing these morons hide behind that phrase to deny evolution, climate change, or those destructive and traumatizing pray-the-gay-away camps.

And that "can't condone not condemn" sounds a whole lot like "don't ask don't tell"-lite for bigotry to my ears.

How many young gay people look to Rick Perry for advice? Probably not many, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall when that group meets.

@3 - Religion is genetic. It's directly proportional to IQ.

"[W]e'll leave that to the psychologists and the doctors."
Meanwhile, the GOP proceeds to ignore what psychologists and doctors say and in some cases even force them to lie to their patients. Cute.

@2 & @6, of course most youth won't look to Perry for advice... but many of their parents do. Perry only gets to decide if his own kids get forced into therapy, but his support for pray-away-the-gay therapy will convince other parents to force their own gay kids into it. This is one of the most destructive and damaging things you can do to a gay kid. It dramatically increases the likelihood of suicide, failure in school, and drug use. Perry should be loudly condemned for making such damaging statements to score political points.
